There is the great debate on what will happen this year with the U.S. Senate election. Pundits, some anyway, are trying to utilize statistics or history to predict what the voters may decide. There is the usual postulating that Obama will be a drag for some Democrats or a boon. I can't say what Obama's overall impact will be on the 2014 Elections, but I will go out on a limb and state that Obama could guarantee at least one Democratic pickup for the U.S. Senate this year. All Obama has to do is hug and kiss Senator Mitch McConnell with a photographer present, and Allison Lundergren-Grimes will be the next Democratic Senator from Kentucky.
Republicans in Kentucky would react with genuine horror at the spectacle of the anti-Christ Obama showering McConnell with affection. McConnell would probably even suffer apoplexy. Obama could leak to the press that McConnell was being treated for his stroke under provisions provided by Obamacare. The combination would prove too devastating for all the Obama haters in Kentucky to handle, and I suspect turnout for McConnell would be virtually non-existent.
I know none of the above will ever happen, but it is a lovely dream. And it would be so easy for Obama to do. No having to deal with Republicans in Congress. No executive action to be questioned by carping conservatives. All he would have to do is invite McConnell over for a beer, and the rest would be history.
