As much as the ACA is a lifesaver for many formerly uninsured Americans, most of us know it hasn't gone far enough, fast enough. Single payer is the ultimate goal, and should continue to be. It's as much a closing of the gap between the rich and the poor as raising the minimum wage and good stable jobs.

H.R. 676 would replace the current system with a single public agency that pays all medical claims, and would eliminate co-pays and deductibles. The bill needs our support in any way we can. Even if it just means letting our members of congress know how serious we feel this bill's passage is to the well-being of the middle class in general. It's an uphill battle, for sure. But perhaps if we set aside a specific day (May 22) to push this agenda in Washington, we'll hit a nerve (not that anyone in Washington has any nerve endings left to be hit and felt). But who knows. We won't know unless we shout it out loud from the highest mountain tops around.

The Physicians for a National Health Program is spreading the message for us all to find a way of giving life support to an idea whose time is now.

Check out this list to see if your congress person is aboard. If not, please give yours a call.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
