Volunteer Edition (Every day is the 19th at KTK)
Jury duty is a civic responsibility, but in a sense it's voluntary. That's because with a minimum of effort one can get out of doing it, by frequent postponements or fabricating an excuse or even making false statements to the lawyers questioning you for seating:
"I can see from here that scum is guilty". Paradise50 has jury duty this week; if you are reading this he was unable to return in time to do Kitchen Table Kibitzing. So I volunteered to be here just in case.
Speaking of volunteers, today I prepared a small (2 feet by 3 feet) bed for planting the last three zucchinis from the greenhouse. This bed was used for Yukon Gold potatoes last year and provided a great harvest. I dug down by hand in case there were still any potatoes and, wow, volunteers galore. These are pure bonus potatoes and will provide many meals.
This being KTK I of course must provide a detailed recipe:
Boil, apply butter, eat.

Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
