More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

movies and tv teaching children that violence is the only correct way to resolve conflict, decades of distant war against a series of dark enemies, decades of  race hatred, decades and more of commodification of women...

I don't think it can be undone now.

W will never have a "Peace Candidate" for any national public office. America is a crazy violent place. Build a house on murder and slavery, and then you have to live with the ghosts in the walls.

I am sorry for your hurt and rage.

sometimes it is not a huge crime like another mass murder that sets me off, but some little part of our daily round of shit.
A while ago I got an ad for a house mortgage on my yahoo page...guess what? a girl in a bikini presenting "lowest interest rates available".
So...this country is full of people who would make a important 30 year financial decision on the basis of big breasts?
It says a lot about our culture and to me, it seems hopeless.

make bad decisions for stupid reasons, which is why advertisers use such methods.  If it didn't work (and it does, many studies have shown, I'm sure), they'd be trying other things.

because "satire by exaggeration" is a thing.

I blame The King James Bible for a lot of misogyny.

The King James in question was a notorious misogynist and certainly felt entitled to a LOT of stuff under the "It's Good To Be The King" rule. Thus, the fellows who wrote this version of the bible put in a few (or more than a few) mistranslations to appeal to James.

Many of those mistranslations were about women. The one I think of most often is changing the Hebrew word for "poisoner" into "witch" in the quote "thou shalt not suffer a witch to live". (Witch hysteria was a giant misogyny back in the day. doncha know.)

So... just something I wanted to say.

Thank you for a place to say it, KHB.
