Saturday is always good when there is a Daily Kos Meetup and we have the opportunity to get together and catch up on the latest personal and political stuff. However, the last couple of meetups have been different because we've had the opportunity to hear from local candidates and a very well-known Congressional Representative, who is also One of Us.

Shockwave did an outstanding job organizing everything; he is excited about our involvement in local politics and we deeply appreciate his knowledge and enthusiasm.

It was a good day to be in L.A. as Betsy Butler, Democratic candidate for the California State Senate, District 26, Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fl), and Marianne Williamson who is running for CA-33 as an Independent, all acknowledged that the support of Daily Kos is meaningful and appreciated. We got together in downtown Los Angeles at Casey's Irish Pub for our first multi-candidate event and an extraordinary chance to hear from Grayson, who was there to support and endorse Williamson.

Kossacks asked the candidates and Grayson very good questions and one posed to the congressmember by a new member inspired perhaps the most lengthy, impassioned answer. He asked how Grayson feels about TPP (Trans-pacific Partnership), which allowed the representative to expand on that, PPP(Purchasing Power Parity), NAFTA, the trade deficit and who owns what percentage of the United States. I came away from that thinking that besides the crisis of global warming, the most important problem we all face, this is quite possibly what we should be focusing on.

Members also asked great questions about fracking, the VA, social security, student debt, the Keystone XL Pipeline, and support for Unions. Overall, it was an impressive display of expertise and engagement.

I realize I have not named everyone in the photos; send me your name and I'll add it. And my formatting is bad, but I've run out of time and it will have to do - this is my first time embedding photos. I will do better next time.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
