In 2012, I proudly backed then Rep. Joe Donnelly's (D. IN) U.S. Senate bid even before Senator Dick Lugar (R. IN) was defeated in the GOP primary to Tea Party lunatic Richard Mourdock (R. IN). I wrote quite a few diaries then in support of Donnelly's campaign and I don't regret doing so. I am very pleased that he is helping his colleague, Senator Kay Hagan (D. NC) in her re-election bid and Donnelly's knows what it's like to run against Karl Rove and the Koch Brothers:
The Koch brothers, Karl Rove, and dark money special interest groups are going all-out this election cycle. Their spending has truly gone through the roof -- and my colleague Senator Kay Hagan of North Carolina is taking the brunt of the attacks.
You might remember that these groups spent more than $12 million against me in the 2012 elections. Well, they're already up to an incredible $16 million in spending to defeat Kay. And there are still a little more than five months left until Election Day.
We beat back the special interests thanks to you. This year, Kay needs us to help her do the same. Her campaign is trying to raise $150,000 in May to fight back, and they're a little short. Can you give $5 or more to help them out?

Kay's work in the Senate isn't just good for North Carolina families -- it's good for middle class families everywhere.
She's been fighting to keep the focus on creating good-paying jobs, protecting Medicare and Social Security, and stopping companies from shipping jobs overseas.
But it's tough to get your message out and break through with voters when you're the number one target of the Koch brothers' dark money groups. Karl Rove's groups are going after her, too. That's the kind of firepower Kay is up against.
And that's why I'm hoping you'll help her fight back today. Her deadline to reach $150,000 is just three days away. If you can, contribute $5 or more right now.

We definitely know what it's like to be a target of outside groups. Thank you for supporting me and thank you for helping Kay Hagan today.
All the best,
Joe Donnelly
