Thanks to anastasia for posting this.
They will hit Columbus tomorrow morning at 9:30 on the statehouse steps. RSVP at 614-600-4233 or BeattyForCongress@gmail.com.
Then Cleveland at 2:30 pm at the SEIU HQ downtown. RSVP to dccc.org/cleveland2014 or caviness.4@gmail.com. All three Ohio Congresswomen are scheduled to be in Cleveland: Joyce Beatty, Marcia Fudge, and Marcy Kaptur.
If you don't know what this is about,
take a look here. This is a tour to promote House Democratic plans for a progressive, populist agenda. Although the issues are lumped together as "Women's issues", this is something everyone should support. Contact friends, post on Facebook, and spread the word! Even if you don't live in Ohio, contact any friends you have there to let them know - this is a big deal. Let's make it as big as we can.
More below the Orange Omnilepticon.
The Women On A Roll Tour is highlighting the efforts of House Democratic Congresswomen to enact a progressive agenda desperately needed by this country - and to mobilize women voters. The message is simple: When Women Succeed, America Succeeds.
The items on the agenda break down to three main areas: Fair Pay (Equal pay for women, and a boost in the minimum wage), Family Leave, Healthy Family Leave (Paid sick leave, maternity leave, and more), and Child Care (Affordable, available, quality child care and expanded Head Start and early learning programs)
The tour kicked off in Seneca Falls, NY and continued to Albany, NY. Monday followed with a swing through Massachusetts - Ohio is next - and then on to Chicago. (If anyone has time/place or contact info for Chicago, please post a comment!)
While Nancy Pelosi is the headliner, the tour is also giving other Congresswomen the chance to shine, and local people a platform to tell their own stories. This is the kind of message many of us have been waiting to hear. (It's telling it's the Democratic women who are the face of this.)
The media reaction to date has been…interesting. One might almost suspect the media is trying to ignore this tour to death or kill it before it spreads. This item from ABC newsnet 5 in Cleveland, OH seems to have gone out of its way to select a picture of Pelosi in an awkward pose, and while it mentions the tour, it barely lists the agenda, and doesn't give any time/place/contact information beyond the day. (ABC WMUR 9 New Hampshire is pissed, too.)
Even more interesting is this reaction from what appears to be a wingnut propaganda page: Nancy Pelosi Bringing Class-War Roadshow to Ohio.
U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will address a Tuesday, June 3 Ohio Statehouse stop on her national “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds” bus tour.
The event takes its name from the House Democrats’ 2013 “economic agenda for women and families,” which Pelosi discussed at length with Center for American Progress (CAP) last September.
During her CAP speech, Pelosi thanked union bosses and abortion providers for their help pushing the Democrat agenda.
emphasis added
Two points to Jason Hart for having the guts to provide links to the time and place, minus 1000 points for the reflex wing nut smears and the deliberate choice of an unflattering photo. You can tell this tour bugs the Hell out of him - he goes out of his way to try to demolish the ideas behind it. That alone should tell the Democrats something!
If you can't get to either stop tomorrow, you can still follow the tour on Facebook and Twitter@WomenSucceed. Sign up for more by texting "SUCCEED" to 69866. And, there's a web page where you can post your stories and volunteer.
Here's the deal - if you like this message, and want more, turn out and sign up! If you want to see a tour stop near you, contact your Congressperson (IF yours happens to be a Democrat - if not, contact their opponent) and sincerely request he or she do what they can to make it happen! While it looks like this is a limited, 4 day event so far, it would be great to see it take on a life of its own.
