Maryland's Fairness For All Marylanders Act was signed by Gov. O'Malley on May 15. It extends anti-discrimination protections to gender identity or expression, protecting Maryland's transgender people. An effort to repeal the law by veto referendum was launched. 55,736 signatures would need to be validated for the law to appear on the ballot, with 18,579 submitted by May 31, and the remaining 37,157 submitted by June 30. The effort has failed: only about 17,500 signatures had been collected by May 31.
