They are wrong.  People will not die to fight for the 2nd.  People have not lost their lives for the 2nd.

They are losing their lives in the present.

Someone did die for the 2nd.

The gun enthusiast who worshiped twenty-seven english words,
constructed to form a more perfect union,
who believed that a line in the sand is so important,
even if that line is in the middle of the Death Valley,
that lives are worth preserving their freedom.

Emilio Hoffman is a name I should not know.  Perhaps in a passing story on high school soccer, if at all.

Tonight his name is being recorded on cards.  Placed in front of candles.  And it is all that the local news has to tell me.

He died.  To defend the 2nd.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

    Emilio Hoffman did not die

    To defend the 2nd.
Emilio Hoffman died because someone, yet to be named, shot him with a semi-automatic rifle.

We do not know explicitly  why he died, but we do know that he was not defending the 2nd amendment.

He was the victim, he did not have a gun, he was in the gym at his school.  By all available knowledge at this time, the only thing he was defending was himself.  If he even had the time to do that.

I am seriously considering HRing this diary.  I would hate for anyone to see this and think we as a community really believe what you have posted.

If I change my mind and come back and Hide Rate the diary, this is why.

He did not die because of the 2nd amendment either.

He died because another person committed murder.

  •  A victim of the 2nd (0+ / 0-)

    Rather than defending the 2nd

This is the young man killed in Oregon yesterday, the victim of the shooter, who may or may not have been making a political statement, sound like he was, but I will not pursue

If the shooter did this in the name of gun rights then Emilio was a victim of that nuts's cause
