Comcast Corporation Executive Vice President David Cohen (L), Time Warner Cable Inc., Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Arthur T. Minson, Jr. (R)
Received this e-mail today from Senator Al Franken (D. MN):
In a recent survey asking consumers how satisfied they were with various companies (everything from Coca-Cola to Nissan), Time Warner Cable’s Internet service ranked 236th. Out of 236. Their TV service ranked 235th.
And Comcast? Their Internet service ranked 234th out of 236 companies. The good news, I guess, is that their TV service made it to 232nd.
The upshot of all this? Comcast and Time Warner Cable already do a lousy job of providing good value for consumers -- and if they join together, things are likely only going to get worse.

There are a lot of good reasons to oppose this acquisition. Media consolidation threatens the free flow of information in America and threatens the net neutrality principles that have made the Internet a powerful force for economic growth and creative expression.
But maybe the best reason is that it’s a terrible deal for consumers. If it goes through, cable and Internet rates will likely go up. People who want to shop around for cable and Internet service could have even fewer choices. And, even though it doesn’t seem mathematically possible, service will likely get even worse.
So speak up -- and let’s make it clear that we oppose this acquisition. Please click here to add your name.

More than 60,900 people have already signed on. But that’s just a start. And with so much at stake, I hope I can count on you to help me.
Thanks,
