Zephyr Teachout on All In With Chris
I couldn’t be more excited that Zephyr Teachout is looking increasingly “ready to run an absolutely serious campaign at a critical time for New York.” We know that she can do it too, and in a way that could reverberate across the country at that.

It is no exaggeration to say that, as a strategist for Howard Dean's presidential campaign, Teachout helped lead the progressive movement into the Internet age and pushed the Democratic Party to the left. Check out this video of her on All In With Chris last week to see her in action.

In contrast, her opponent Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) has earned titles such as Governor 1% and "Wall Street's newest hero."

Of course Cuomo claims to support working families, but his policies are unabashedly producing more inequality not less. It’s a pretty stark distinction considering how Teachout occupies Wall Street and advocates for all of us, not to mention working as a law professor and a leading advocate for getting big money out of politics.

We’ve already seen how an Occupy-inspired message can resonate with the public and help lead to progressive champions like Bill de Blasio and Elizabeth Warren achieving national stature. Teachout can do that, but with a twist.

Simply by challenging Cuomo in the Democratic primary on September 9, Teachout would force him to live up to his recent promise to restore the State Senate to real Democrats to make New York the progressive leader it should be.

Making this happen was the real reason for the Working Families Party endorsement of Andrew Cuomo. Unfortunately it already appears that Cuomo is reneging on his pledge.

Fortunately, Teachout’s campaign would not only hold his feet to the fire in this department, but also expose how Cuomo’s amoral politics make the 1% richer and more powerful.

Teachout is a powerful voice promoting the better “new populist” values the 99% all share across the board. New York politics can be complicated, but supporting Zephyr Teachout is not.

Update: And it's official! #TeamZephyr has lift off, along with the great Tim Wu on the ticket as Lt. Governor. Stay tuned.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
