Hillary says good stuff, two days in a row now. What is she trying to do, make me a fan?
On last night's Canadian news show The National (starting 14:30), she was talking about climate change and renewable energy:
Q: (quoting her in her book) "It's a false choice to argue the economics of the situation (of climate change) over environmental protection..."
Clinton: We have tremendous opportunities in clean renewable energy, in natural gas as a bridge to clean renewable energy, in energy efficiency. I think it will take careful planning to make the transition, which is what President Obama is doing now with the new standards on coal-fired power plants, but it's a necessary transition and it has economic benefits....
We highly subsidize, still to this day, fossil fuels. All kinds of tax benefits flow to oil companies and gas companies and coal companies.... If the government's going to subsidize something.... The government's already got a really heavy thumb on the scale, let's put an equally heavy thumb on the clean energy renewable side, and I guarantee you there is a path forward that will minimize the economic disruption as we make that transition....
And now today at a townhall, via
CNN:
5:55 p.m.: Asked if there should be mandatory voting, Clinton "no," but argued "there should be automatic registration."
"When a young person turns 18, that young person should be registered to vote," she said. "And I deplore the efforts by some to restrict the right to vote."
Good positions on two important issues. Props where they are due.
