I don't have a link, but Chris Hayes is reporting that preliminary analysis shows that Thad Cochran's victory tonight in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate was because of black voters. He did make a caveat that it will take more time to see if this initial analysis holds. I suspect this hypothesis is based upon voter turnout in primarily black precincts.
IF this analysis holds up, I fully expect Tea Party heads will explode all over the nation. In MS, I expect to see reports of a mushroom cloud rising into the atmosphere. According to Robert Costa, McDaniel's supporters are "apoplectic." There are further reports that McDaniel has accused Senator John McCain of being some kind of "traitor" supporting Cochran.
What does all this mean for 2014? I honestly don't know. I know it will make for some great entertainment for Democrats outside of MS. I don't know about you, but watching Republicans tear each other a new one over a U.S. Senate race is fun, especially over an issue that Republicans claim they have no problem with: racial relations.
Because no matter what the reality of the vote totals, the story among the Tea Party will be that the Republican establishment BETRAYED! base voters by reaching out to black Democrats. And those damn Democrats once again STOLE an election! How can anyone who calls himself a Republican deal with such people???
