The most significant Senate race of 2014.
Grimes v. McConnell.
I've made a study of Kentucky's Senior Senator. I call it. . . The Zen of McConnell.
A treasury of the wit, wisdom and folly of McConnell.
In this space I will draw from my work to illuminate his career. He has taken positions that are inconsistent. Troubling. Difficult. That's what the Zen is about.
First up:
Gender Equity. From P. 21 in Zen of McConnell
A new U.S. attorney was needed for the Eastern District of Kentucky in 1991. McConnell had the perfect choice for the job that paid $106,300 a year at the time.
“I decided that it was time to have a female U.S. attorney. . . it is time to have a woman in a position of prominence in this state. They have been held back too long.”
McConnell’s choice: His then girlfriend of two years, Karen Caldwell. Caldwell was later appointed in 2001 to a lifetime position as a federal judge by President George W. Bush.
