Good Morning Kossacks and Welcome to Morning Open Thread (MOT)
We're known as the MOTley Crew and you can find us here every morning at 0630 am Eastern time. Feel free to volunteer to take a day - permanently or just once in awhile. With the Auto Publish feature you can set it and forget it. Sometimes the diarist du jour shows up much later: that's the beauty of Open Thread...it carries on without you! OK, is Zydeco Wednesday again. You know you love it, you came where you want to be. Zydeco Jimmy went to the Fais do do (Fye-doh-doh) last week on Saturday and had himself some bon temps. this is one of the times during the year when most of Oregon gets together to give ourselves a big group hug for, once again, being the nicest mellowest state in the nation.
Now I have said before the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival is the best ongoing multi day Blues Festival West of the Mississippi. (The Jazz/heritage Fest in NOLA is on the East (north) side.) I would compare it to something but there's nothing really in its class to compare it to, again I say west of the Mighty M.
So Zydeco Jimmy ( my evil twin) and mrs e went up to Portland to see the do. Fais do do (Fye-doh-doh)is a misnomer because that applies to Cajun music but I'm just going to go ahead and use it. It means, roughly: hoedown.
We park east side of the Morrison Bridge and walk across. its about half a mile but a pleasant stroll and gives appropriate time for head adjustment prior to entering the Fest. We find the preliminary noggin to be absolutely essential for these affairs. Its a no smoking zone except if you want to hide in the porta potties and blow it out the window grate. (So I'm told) So we got there after noon, after 1 3/4 hr drive from Wonderful and headed for the Front Porch stage, which is the Zydeco/Cajun/New Orleans stage.
Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Cha's were the headliners for the day. I've said before that one of the pleasant things about the Zydeco scene is the musicians mingle with the audience. this is how close I got to him, while dancing.
here's two songs worth of Nathan
here's what a bunch of Zydeco dancers look like
So we ambled on over to the Blues stage now and then. of course this was well worthwhile, we heard a couple of good blues groups here.
Then it was time for the headliner of the Day: Charlie Musselwhite. I love this guy! I didn't get any pictures of him tho because my camera chip was filled up but here's a little something by him.
Afterwards ZJ and Ma exlrrp cruised down to Salem for a fish dinner at McGrath's, then home to the farm. A good time was had by all. Laissez les bon temps roulllez
