Dick Cheney, War Criminal.
When Dick Cheney penned an op-ed this week from his spider-hole in a secret, undisclosed location (pictured above) and called it "The Truth About Iraq," you sort of knew what you would be in for if you read it. But whenever Dick Cheney uses the word "truth" in a sentence, my bullshit alarm starts shrieking and I just can't shut it off until I find out for myself what lies Dick is selling this time.
As it turns out, Cheney is still spewing the same lies he spewed back in the day when he helped sell the American public on the Iraq War. Even the one about Saddam's ties to al Qaeda, which has been thoroughly debunked:
It is undisputed, and has been confirmed repeatedly in Iraqi government documents captured after the invasion, that Saddam had deep, longstanding, far-reaching relationships with terrorist organizations, including al Qaeda and its affiliates.
And WMD's!
It is also undisputed that Saddam Hussein had the technology, equipment, facilities, and scientists in place to construct the world’s worst weapons.
But not everything Cheney says is a lie....Unfortunately, some of it is, predictably, ironic truth:
Saddam’s was a reign of terror characterized by torture, rape rooms....
Yeah. Cheney went there. Rape rooms. Like the
rape rooms in Abu Ghraib. Torture. Like the torture we practiced in a
dozen places from Bagram to Gitmo. After beating the drums for why it was justifiable for America to torture captives from the Iraq war, Dick Cheney still says that rape rooms and torture are among the reasons it was justifiable for the United States to invade Iraq in the first place. Apparently, so that the US could build its
own rape rooms and torture chambers.
Dick Cheney: still lying, still utterly oblivious to irony. Some things never change.
Another thing that will never change: Whenever I hear the words "Dick Cheney," I will always silently add the words, "War Criminal."
