Ever since the ongoing immigration situation at the Texas border became national news, it seems the Texas Republicans (always ready with offensive material for every issue) have been trying to top each other on hysterical comments. We've had Rick Perry's Obama conspiracy theories and Louis Gohmert apparently having watched too much Children of the Corn flicks. And now we've got another one:
This time, it's Rep. Michael McCaul, the Homeland Security Committee chair (keep that in mind). He was at the border and, well, he's seen the threat with his own eyes:
Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), chairman of the House Homeland Security committee, said that while it was sad to see young undocumented immigrants at the southwest border, some of the teens looked like a "threat."
"It’s very heart-wrenching as a father to see that — mothers with their babies," McCaul said on "Fox News Sunday." "I also saw some 17-year-olds that I thought looked more like a threat to coming into the United States."
Hmmm, what could a middle-aged white man find so menacing about 17-year-olds with darker complexions? I wonder...
Just a hint, Mike, you are aware these are not Al Qaeda sleepers in waiting, no matter what Gohmert seems to think. You should hang out with him less; it's giving you bad ideas.
More:
The congressman showed little sympathy for young migrants crossing the border. While he said that some may qualify to stay in the U.S., that most needed to be sent away as a "message of deterrence."
They're desperate kids trying to get to safety, Mike, not an invading horde of
Dothraki screamers looking to seize your womenfolk. Stop using the military terms. Again, this is what happens when you hang around Gohmert too much.
And again, this is the Homeland Security Committee chairman, folks. If you're expecting any reasonable behavior from the GOP on this issue (or if Obama's expecting any serious cooperation as he attempts to deal with this difficult issue), good luck on that.
And again, Reince, how's the outreach going?
