Hello all, it's been a while since I've spent any real time on this site. After finally starting back at college, I've been inundated with schoolwork, fieldwork, and certification exams. I start student teaching in the fall, and I'll be a certified teacher (B-6) by the new year. Of course, it can't be that easy, can it?
I've recently received some bad news about my sweet, old 1990 Corolla. My trusty steed which has gotten me to class safely these past four years is no longer the reliable classic it once was. Last week I brought her in to repair what was believed to be a small oil leak, and found out that oil was leaking from multiple spots (oil pan, front timing cover seal, and distributor O ring). As if that wasn't enough, my transmission pan is also leaking. Oh, and my fuel and brake lines are rotting. All of this will cost more to fix than the car is worth, and I can't really rationalize investing any more money into such an old car when I can put a down payment on a reliable used one.
So if you'll bear with me, here is my plea...
I've started a GoFundMe to try and raise a down payment on a car.
I'm trying to do this as quickly as possible because I start student teaching at the end of August and I need to know that I will be able to get to my placements safely every day. The commute will be longer (about 50 miles round trip) than my commute to the college or my job (less than 20 miles round trip) and takes me along a main highway, where a brake failure would be disastrous.
I am not some random jerk asking the internet for money, I promise. I work a part-time job as a cashier at a grocery store while I work my ass off to maintain my grades. I had a hard time making the decision to get back into school, but my passion for education really lit a fire under my ass and I've been blazing through a full-time class load ever since.
And now here I am, humbly asking this community for some help. I know I haven't been as active on the site as I once was, but I'd still immensely appreciate any help offered. You'd have the eternal gratitude of this aspiring educator.
Thank you all for reading.
