Matthew 19:14
But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
There is something obscene about seeing "God-fearing Christians" frothing at the mouths as they spew hate at beautiful, weary, hungry, bewildered, poor children. Seeing Democrats, for fear of losing an election, showing the same lack of empathy for these children is beyond disappointing. It is downright despicable.

It is quite telling that in seeking to find a quote about Dan Malloy's refusal to help those children in need, the first entries on Google were from Right Wing sites. They were downright gleeful as they, like us, understand what this capitulation from Malloy means: They and their filthy ideology are winning.
I remind Mr Malloy of that old proverb:
A hundred years cannot repair a moment's loss of honor.
A cowardly act!
Connecticut officials have rejected a federal request to temporarily house up to 2,000 immigrant children from Central America at a mostly-vacant facility built for developmentally disabled adults.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

I know Steve Kornacki and others in the media have said O'Malley isn't willing to house these children in Maryland and that isn't true. He didn't want them at the facility that was vandalized by bigots because it was unsafe. His team is working on getting in-home placements for these kids as well as other placements in Baltimore. Is that the case here as well?

If Malloy's decision was political, that is dumb politics and a shameful decision.

Nina Smith, an O'Malley spokeswoman, said it would be wrong to suggest the governor's position on the Westminster site suggests he is not willing to have the children in Maryland. Smith said O'Malley and other state officials have been working with federal partners and local officials to try to play a constructive role in addressing the matter for weeks.

O'Malley aides emphasized that recommending against locating children at one location did not mean the governor opposes housing the children in Maryland. On Monday, the O'Malley administration took steps to formally create a licensing process for providers to help the children in Maryland after weeks of working on the matter.

While O'Malley's administration has said it's working to find temporary shelters for immigrant children arriving from Central America, he asked the White House in a private conversation not to send the children to one of the sites that had been under consideration, according to a source familiar with the conversation. The conversation between O'Malley and White House domestic policy adviser Cecilia Munoz took place late Friday evening.  The person familiar with the content of the call said O'Malley told Munoz that the facility in Westminster, Maryland, was in a conservative part of the state, and the children were at risk of getting harassed or worse. The source insisted on anonymity in order to publicly discuss the private conversation.

he was right that was not the right location for the kids. When leading the leading Latino group in the state publicly sides with him that that location would put the kids in danger and would not be a place where they'd feel loved, I feel confident the right decision was made.

He's been pushing for safe, humane places for these kids to go to and has objected to just warehousing them. He thinks they should be in homes like other foster kids and is working towards that goal.

kids into unsafe, old buildings in areas that are actively hostile to them is good policy in the short or long term. If they have to be warehoused temporarily, we owe it to them to make sure these buildings are safe and that these kids will have access to the basic needs while we look for a more permanent solution. My fear is that they are just picking any old abandoned government building and trying to move kids there.

            •  And this is why I hold to my earlier views on (0+ / 0-)

the matter, askew. This was a calculated political move by Malloy. He's saying all the right things and doing the wrong thing for selfish reasons.
CT does not need to put the children into "unsafe, old buildings." All the governor had to do was have his staff call around to certain cities/towns around the state and I am positive he'd have found suitable accommodations. Churches here would be more than willing to help.
I find it disgusting that he's passing off his inaction on the administration.
Again, he could have said, "Not that building, but we'll find something better." How hard is that?

I need to learn more about this as this diary is the first I've heard about it.
Malloy is in a tough reelection campaign and CT is a very prejudiced state, so it's not that surprising that Malloy would be "cautious" about bringing in a bunch of refugees. If the facility really isn't suitable, then, he may have a point, then he will need to come up with a better plan.
I'm not sure that warehousing a couple thousand kids anywhere is a good idea, finding host families would be much more humane. Not easy, but better.
Anyway, I want to find out directly from Malloy's office what is happening with this.

If I ran this circus, things would be DIFFERENT!

  •  Cowardice is never a winning strategy. (0+ / 0-)

Taking the moral high ground sometime is and sometimes isn't a winning strategy, but cowardice never is.

How does giving in to bigots get their votes?

How does being intimidated by screaming harpies bolster your leadership credentials?

How does validating bigotry, instead of defying it, improve the landscape Democrats run on?

How many votes does Dan Malloy think he gained by being cruel to children? So far as I know, people who advocate cruelty to children don't generally vote Democratic.

Obama: Pro-Pentagon, pro-Wall Street, pro-drilling, pro-fracking, pro-KXL, pro-surveillance. And the only person he prosecuted for the U.S. torture program is the man who revealed it. Clinton: More of the same.
