I had teased a bit in other diaries that I expect some big announcements today and tomorrow with regards to some of our events that are scheduled upcoming.   This is not that announcement that I had planned, but it is still a great reminder of why you want to be in Emporia on July 20!

Lyon County Democrats in Emporia will be hosting our Gubernatorial candidate Paul Davis, previously announced, and I am pleased to announce that Jean Shodorf, candidate for Secretary of State will also be in attendance as a special guest.

Let me explain why these meetings matter if you are a Kansan.

We are all here as Kossacks hoping to enact change - not just national change, but local change in our communities and state.   These events are a great chance to meet not just other Kossacks, but to meet fellow Democrats - many of whom are already with you on trying to change our state for the better.

The event in Emporia is a potluck, so please feel free to bring something.   I'll be dashing straight from Netroots, but I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in Lyon County.   I'll be helping to provide a narrative for local campaigns and for their US House District Candidate, Jim Sherow.

Today I told a group of people I know only through the online world the real truth about these meetups: as adults, we don't make friends as easily as we did when we were children.   Coming to these meetings with people who want what you do is a great way to help influence your state and make good friends while you are at it.

Also.. just a heads up.. I'm bringing BBQ Baked Beans.   That's right.  I'm rushing from my plane into KC to make up some of my UNBELIEVABLE BBQ Baked Beans.

So, whether you come for the friendship, Paul Davis, Jean Shodorf or the food everyone here will welcome you in Emporia and I invite you to spread the word.

The meeting will be held at: Emporia Senior Center, 603 E 12th. starting at 5PM.

I look forward to seeing you all there!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Anyone else suspicious that Kobach is not going to honestly count the votes - that unless Davis wins by 3-4 pts he's gonna lose?

All the counties are going to be county-counted with an observer from both parties present.   I will give our state credit for that, we do a pretty decent job of verifying the vote correctly.

This should be a great event for people in Kansas.. plus, seriously, my the food should be awesome.

If you happen to be passing through Rice County, watch out for the cops in Lyons at the intersection 14 and 56.  Those guys are crooked as a dog's hind leg.

Other than that, you folks have a great time and I wish I could join you.  The people I met in Wichita on my recent pilgrimage were without question the most welcoming I have ever known.  I felt extra special at home among the Mennonites in Yoder  because all the guys were seven feet tall with great big happy hippie beards.
