Perhaps it's the increasing awareness that her tenure in Congress is drawing to a merciful close, but for whatever reason, Michelle Bachmann has been really outspoken even by her standards in recent days. First she threatened to run for President again in 2016 and, like the little attention-starved child that she is, whined why no one was asking her about it. Then, to follow that up, she had her own charming solution to the refugee situation on the border: Throw immigrant children into labor camps. That last suggestion got this great response:
Some have voiced concerns with Bachmann’s plan, however. “She wants to create Republican indoctrination camps and force these poor children into lives of indentured servitude,” posits documentarian and activist Jose Antonio Vargas. “She’s talking about labor camps where we raise an army of future Republican voters, and work them like slaves until they get old enough to possibly deport, if it comes to that. No one should be taking anything this woman says seriously.”
Well, that's obvious.
Unfortunately, Michelle being Michelle, she just can't stop talking about the issues of the day. And she's back on one of her favorite subject, the nasty gays. (An issue she has a lot of personal experience with.) As you can guess, Michelle is not happy with the never-ending string of successes on gay marriage. (She has to watch happy gay couples marry in her own state! OH THE HUMANITY!!!) But Michelle's onto them and knows their endgame! What is it? According to her, this:
In an interview this week with the host of a conservative radio show, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) said the gay community wants to "do away with statutory rape laws so that adults will be able to freely prey on little children sexually."
Oh boy. Do go on, Michelle.
Bachmann predicted the gay community would push for “multiple” people in a marriage next, and after that, the elimination of sexual consent laws.
“They want to abolish age of consent laws, which means children would, we would do away with statutory rape laws so that adults will be able to freely prey on little children sexually,” Bachmann said. “That’s the deviance that we’re seeing embraced in our culture today."
I think the only "deviance" is in your mind, Michelle, because it takes a rather sick, deviant mind to look at happy couples being married and jump to images of children being raped. (Not to mention an old and tired conservative scare tactic, as the "gay predator" myth has
been debunked long ago.)
Michelle didn't stop there. Like many homophobes these days, she's the real victim of intolerance and besides, it's what God wants!
“This is a revolution that we are encountering now. For all of the thousands of years of recorded human history, about 5,000 years, there is no instance of any culture, nation or tribe ever having as the established standard for marriage anything other than between man and woman,” the tea party conservative argued. “It may have been multiple women and a man, it may have been something like that, but it was always between men and women.”
After declaring gay marriage a “radical” experiment that flies in the face of God, Bachmann insisted that anti-gay conservatives are only seeking to “spread goodness and joy and wholeness and healing … through a loving God with a message that frees people.”
Nice polygamy dodge there, Michelle. But please inform me how a "loving God that frees people" fits with you refusing to allow happy couples be together in wedded bliss.
(crickets)
Okay, fine. But Michelle's played this "intolerance" card before. This is what she said back in March, concerning the backlash against Arizona's (thankfully rejected) anti-gay discrimination bill:
"There's nothing about gays in there. But the gay community decided to make this their measure," Bachmann said. "I think the thing that is getting a little tiresome, the gay community, they have so bullied the American people, and they've so intimidated politicians. The politicians fear them, so that they think they get to dictate the agenda everywhere."
That's our Michelle, fighting for the rights of oppressed homophobes everywhere!
Please, Congresswoman, leave stage left and don't come back. As much humor as you may give us, there's plenty more crazies where you came from. (Hell, Georgia's given us a two for one deal this week.) And frankly, it's hard to take you seriously on gays when you can't even ID the one in your own house.
Low blow? Maybe? But in Bachmann's case, she gets what she gives.
