A short synopsis: allegedly shocked, stunned and appalled by longstanding, well known systemic corruption in Albany, Cuomo starts a Moreland Commission to investigate it. After a while, before anyone's been charged with anything, before it issues a report about what its done, but after it issues a raft of subpoenas, he stops it in its tracks Why? It's "my commission" he tells the press, so he can stop it. Denounced for this by the NY Times, he directs the commission members to write letters to rebut the Times's assertions, to state how the Governor's office hasn't ever interfered with their Moreland Commission work. Except it turns out there are emails that belie the very claim from the very commissioners now making it to the press. Oh well. Always ready to jump into a brawl, the US Attorney writes him a stern letter warning about interfering with witnesses and obstruction of justice, i.e. by telling Commission Members what to say. Cuomo responds that he he'll show us, he won't talk about it ever again. Today's news: even though he's entitled to be represented by the Attorney General of New York in connection with the US Attorney's investigation, he's hired a well known criminal lawyer to represent the "Executive Branch" of Government (not him personally) and the payments for this will come from his campaign funds and not public coffers.
Are you kidding me? This makes Nixon's Watergate cover up look like a garden party presided over by Martha Mitchell.
But stay tuned. There's always a new wrinkle.
In the meanwhile, consider cleaning house entirely by voting for Zephyr Teachout in the primary.
