Apparently, Spring Arbor University loves taking in money from sinning taxpayers so much that they do not want to give up federal taxpayer money that student's bring via: Pell grants and/or federal student loans. So their President, Brent Ellis, requested and was
granted the legal right to "discriminate" against some things found in Federal Law, Title IX which is supposed to prohibit discrimination against sex and a host of other things.
Enforcement of the above regulations [Title IX] in respect to Spring Arbor University would require that the University not discriminate in discipline, admissions, hiring and employment decisions, in matters such as employment leaves for pregnancy, childbirth, and elective termination of pregnancy, or on the basis of pre-marital sex, unmarried pregnancy, extra-marital sex, or homosexual activity. As with the other regulations for which exemption is sought, requiring Spring Arbor University to allow such situations to exist at the University would be inconsistent with the religious tenets of the Free Methodist Church and the Christian religious beliefs, policies, and values adhered to and practiced by the University.
Spring Arbor University is requesting an exemption from the specific Title IX regulations referenced in this letter, so that the University may discriminate on religious grounds in regard to students and employees, in keeping with its religious beliefs and the tenets of the Free Methodist religion, as set forth in this request.
~ excerpt from Spring Arbor University President, Brent Ellis
(emphasis added)
Title IX is a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex for schools that receive federal funding, including Pell grants and federal student loans. Which is why Brent Ellis had to request the legal right to "discriminate" against students and employees.
Gawd knows there is not a sinning taxpayer among us who would want to strip Spring Arbor University from using our tax money to keep their lights on. So yeah, discriminate away dude my only concern is this: is Brent Ellis' list of things he wants to be able to legally discriminate against too short, or did he cover all the bases?
By the way, I wonder if Brent Ellis would mind writing a detailed thesis on why he would prohibit the "Virgin" Mary from working at or attending Spring Arbor University?
In 2007, the Dean of Spring Arbor University, John Nemecek was fired for wanting to undergo gender transformation and changed his name to Julie. Julie sued Spring Arbor University through the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The case was settled but the terms of the settlement were not disclosed to the public.
In April of this year Universities around the country received a letter from the Department of Education explaining changes to Title IX would now include protections for transgender students.
Ut oh!
Other religious Universities have asked for, and have been granted, an exemption to allow for continued discrimination against transgender students and employees ... you know, all in the name of "God."
Not to confuse any readers here, I want to emphasis and underscore that Spring Arbor Universities was not only granted the right to discriminate against transgender students/employees but they were also granted the right to discriminate against: marital status, parental status, and homosexuals, "unmarried pregnancy" -- "homosexual activity."
When Brent Ellis was confronted with his desire to legally punish unwed mothers and homosexuals, by way of firing or expelling, Ellis went straight to denial mode:
BRENT ELLIS: "This is not a punitive action. We hope that it will be the reverse and we can work together. We want everyone to know they are welcome, but that we do not affirm every lifestyle choice."
(emphasis added)
Yeah, cuz who the hell looks at getting fired or tossed out of school as a "punishment."
I often wonder what kind of hate these bigots would have spewed if they'd seen Jesus lovingly washing the feet of the 12 men he lived with and slept with? Oh well ....
Personally, I don't give a flying fig if Brent Ellis and other so-called religious colleges/universities Presidents and/or Boards are bigoted, hate-filled creeps. And naturally, I would never send any of my children to such a college/university.
That said, if these religious colleges/universities feel so strongly about their alleged "religious beliefs" -- to the point that they willfully, gleefully discriminate against "sinners" -- then they should not receive taxpayer money.
Let their lights go out.
