There have been several recent media references to the fact that Arizona now has more voters registered as "independent" than either Rep or Dem.
That may be true for registration, but voting is another matter. I think many of those "independents" just don't want to face publicly identifying themselves with the GOP.
Those "independents" are very red for this month's primaries, according to the Arizona Republican Party:
"The latest figures available from Maricopa County, which holds nearly 60 percent of Arizona’s registered voters, show that independents voting early greatly favor voting a Republican primary ballot compared to voting the ballot of the Democrats.
"As of today 42,310 independents have requested a Republican primary ballot compared to only 18,547 who have requested the Democrat ballot."
In most of the outlying counties, the GOP percentage could be even higher.
I'd say "independent" is as independent does.
