Remember razor-averse Joe Miller, the GOP whiner from Alaska who lost his last senatorial bid to a write-in candidate? Well, Miller, who favors the Hezbollah commander look, is at it again. His latest stunt, according to thinkprogress:
An inflammatory mailer sent to Anchorage, Alaska residents over the weekend by an anti-immigrant, Tea-party backed Republican primary Senate candidate features shirtless, tattooed men making gang signs with their hands, and a message that condemns the Democrat primary opponent for wanting “20 million illegals” to vote. Candidate Joe Miller’s mailer comes at a time when he’s a distant third in Republican primary polls and his state’s three Republican Senate candidates are emphasizing immigration to win their party’s nomination ahead of next week’s GOP primary election.
Distant third? Haha.
NBC describes the delusional Miller's campaign:
Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller is standing in the pouring rain in the far corner of a mostly empty Sears parking lot, surrounded by about two dozen supporters waving signs and yelling at passing cars.
"Hey, alright!" hollers Miller, who's right on the curb of a bustling four-lane road running through a commercial district dotted with strip malls. He flashes the thumbs up.
"Our supporters really shine in bad weather," one volunteer tells him. "Freedom is worth going out in the rain."
Another honking car flies by, with the driver gesturing at the volunteers. "Was that positive, or negative?" someone asks. Miller, who's a distant third in Republican primary polls, responds with enthusiasm, like a coach pumping up his team: "Definitely positive!"
I love the smell of 'definitely positive' vague gestures from speeding cars in the morning; it smells like...humiliation. But Miller thinks his latest 'selling point' is a winner because 'GUN STUFF'!!! The
Alaska Dispatch News doesn't seem impressed:
A provocative new mailer from Republican U.S. Senate candidate Joe Miller featuring images of tattooed, threatening-looking Hispanics and saying that incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Begich “wants them to vote” is factually inaccurate, a widely respected immigration attorney said Monday.
The mailer, widely distributed to Anchorage households over the weekend, ties the hot-button immigration issue to gun control by including a quote from Miller claiming “if 20 million illegals vote, you can kiss the Second Amendment goodbye.”
“Joe Miller is 100 percent pro gun, 100 percent against amnesty,” says the mailer, which features photos on the reverse side of Miller firing a handgun and teaching shooting to a boy and girl identified as his children.
But Margaret Stock, an Anchorage-based attorney with Cascadia Cross-Border Law, said Miller’s claim about Begich wanting undocumented immigrants to vote was false.
Under current immigration law, belonging to a gang is grounds for deportation, and tattoos like the ones depicted on Miller’s flier have been used as evidence of gang membership, Stock said.
“If you’re an unauthorized, immigrant gang member, you’re denied all immigration benefits, and you’re deported,” Stock said in a phone interview Monday.
Gosh...Tea Party asshole gets facts wrong: who could have predicted
that?
There's scant comfort for Miller at NBC::
The Aug. 19 Alaska primary will determine who takes on Sen. Mark Begich, one of the half dozen vulnerable Democratic incumbents whose fates will decide which party controls the Senate. For Miller, it's an attempt at a second act; with Sarah Palin's endorsement, the Fairbanks lawyer beat Sen. Lisa Murkowski in her 2010 GOP primary, only to lose the general election to her write-in campaign.
Since then, Miller's become much more unpopular, and the campaign feels more like a personal vendetta than a tea party crusade. Polls show him trailing Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell and former Alaska Attorney General Dan Sullivan. Palin has stayed out of it.
Wow; even the pathologically self-advertizing Snowshoe Barbie is staying away? Where's the love, Joe?
I suspect that there's a lesson here, if Miller were capable of actually learning. That lesson would be: don't be an asshole all the damn time because even your erstwhile 'friends' will end up hating your guts and running a mile in tight shoes to avoid you.
Also, too: getting an 'endorsement' from Sheriff Joe Arpaio? That just reeks of desperation, Joe. According to America's Nastiest Sherrif, Miller is:
...the only GOP candidate in Alaska’s US Senate race who is 100% against amnesty and who will boldly confront the lawlessness of the Obama Administration.
Uh-huh...
Joe Miller: To Boldly Lose An Election That He Boldly Lost Before
It works for me.
