We Americans obviously reserve our rights to bear arms, because of the 2nd Amendment and its "clear doctrine" of the right to self-defense. Apparently, that extends to self-defense against your own children.
The Independent reports:
A police officer shot his 16-year-old daughter mistakenly believing her to be an intruder, then crashed his car on the way to the hospital, after the teenager crawled back home following a night out.
And before anybody decides to justify his firearm possession due to his occupation as a police officer, Officer McDonald used a privately owned firearm in the incident, not his service one. While the officer proceeded to drive into a barricade while carrying his daughter to the hospital, she's fortunately in a stable condition.
While an incident that may not bear such a magnitude as the mass shootings that plague our country every few months, hopefully this helps shed a little light into the muddled mess that is our country's gun ownership debate. For every claim that can be made that firearms can be used to defend ourselves, there is an equal amount of claims that have shown that they can have devastating effects to those around us.
