More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  I see the intent, but why drag Robin Williams (4+ / 0-)

into this? It's a different kind of tragedy but they're both tragedies. A suicide from depression and a murder by a cop.
    I'm not laughing.

Sorry, not funny, not creative, not anything. A miss. A million other images could have been made that would have been more effective.

Kinda hit home for me. On my Facebook wall, I've got white friends who are still posting daily things about Robin Williams but have yet to show any interest whatsoever over what's happening in Ferguson.

depressed and has been upset about Ferguson too. I myself have left Robin behind for Ferguson but I can see both tragedies. Suicides by depressives number more than car accidents. But agreed: we all need to see Ferguson as a rallying point for real change in the country, but if this doesn't do it, it's going to take a lot of hard work and political and social change.

(But of course we all said that about children's deaths due to guns recently. That's the depressing part.)

Depression is extremely difficult to deal with at the best of times. I've been dealing with it for much of my life, so it's sort of like background noise for me at this stage of my life. I think the reason this cartoon didn't trigger any annoyance or anger in me is because the artist isn't really talking about depression. He's referring to Robin Williams as more of the generic "beloved actor died" situation.

Wrote a diary here about Robin and depression, too, but not about Ferguson. Doesn't mean I have no interest in Ferguson.  I'm as horrified as everyone else is and am reading all the diaries being posted here and the coverage happening elsewhere.  I just have nothing to add that I felt was worthy of posting.  Whereas I have experience with depression and did have something new to say about it, so I did.

    •  The desperation of the Ferguson police is comical (0+ / 0-)

Yesterday's lie was that the toxicology report showed that Mike Brown had traces of (gasp) marijuana in his body.

Never mind that the toxicology report is still expected to be completed in another 2-5 weeks

Yeah, a cop who makes up shit that far off-the-wall to somehow prove that his buddy was absolutley justifed in assassinating a blah young man is comical.

But two tragedies don't make a funny. It's not timing, either. The marijuana lie might work, but that actually happened. Gotta go much more off the wall crazy to make it good. .

Mike Brown probably didn't know Robin Williams from Robin Hood. It's ancient history to 18 year old kids.

Sorry, KK. Not this one. Sometimes shit just happens.

I look forward to your next contribution. I love comics.

      Your artwork is terrific.

Just got a Facebook post that said that the cop that killed Michael Brown got a broken eye socket during an altercation with Brown and had to defend himself.

I saw this cartoon about "suspiciously timed" information and wondered if that is what this is.

    Anyone know anything about this?

too, did a news search, no hits at all.

But did watch the video from Piaget (can't remember her last name) yesterday.

You can clearly see Officer Wilson just minutes at most after the shooting.

In the video, there is simply no evidence of anything. The cop walks around and stands around and never once so much as touches his face. There is no apparent swelling or injury.

An orbital eye fracture would likely involve bleeding. They eye is a delicate structure and a fracture would mean significant force to break the boney structure of the eye socket.

Enough so that some bleeding, and perhaps a lot of bleeding, would happen right away.

Also, it would probably start to swell within minutes as the body rushed fluids to the area.

I'm not buying it until or unless I see some doctor say they examined him THE DAY of the shooting and confirms this.

it would be conceivable that it occurred if he had pulled Brown into the car, threatening him with his gun, and Michael tried to get away.  So, even if there is one, it proves nothing.

      Diversity training fixes Cliven Bundy?
      Diversity training fixes Donald Sterling?

Yet that's what the TeeVee talking heads have been repeating  endlessly.

It can be fixed by hiring competent police officers.
I'm convinced that the Ferguson police chief would know a competent police officer from a tree stump. This is a guy who would never hire anyone smarter than he imagines of himself.

His resume starts off with a two year community college Associates degree and several years later seems to have acquired a  BS in Criminal Justice somehow. His entire career has been in Drug Enforcement. No way does this qualify him as a candidate for ANY police chief job.

Then there's the consequences of his apparent total lack of "leadership" skills and no leadership experience at all.

In 2009, officers mistakenly arrested Henry Davis based on an outstanding warrant for another man with the same surname. While in custody, Davis was allegedly beaten by four officers. Davis was charged with "property damage" for bleeding on the officers' uniforms.

Between July 2009 and December 2010, Eddie Boyd III was hired as a police officer by the department. Boyd had previously been fired from the Saint Louis Police Department after that department had to to pay $35,000 in a lawsuit resulting from Boyd beating a young man he was attempting to arrest.

So yeah. Michael Brown HAD to be on drugs. It's the only possible explanation. It's the only experience the police chief has had. It's the only possible explanation.

These assholes need to be fired yesterday.

They never face the truth, because as anyone with integrity knows, the truth cuts both ways.  When we are wrong, the truth hurts.  They aneal themselves with the opiate of belief in bullshit that prevents them from ever being wrong...
