This is a series of diaries highlighting animal rescues around the country and noting and celebrating the work they do to help animals who have no voices but ours to speak for them. I have decided to make this a daily series because there are so many wonderful rescues out there who need human help and weekly just doesn't seem to be enough. I have long wanted to start a rescue but lack the resources or time available to do so right now so this is my attempt to do my part. I hope that these rescues will benefit from the kindness and benevolence of the community here at Daily Kos. They are amazing organizations and worthy of Kossack attention and care.
I am here, alive and all around you
I have no voice
In your trees, your air, your fields, your oceans, your world
I have no voice
I am a mother, a father, a protector, a soul
I have no voice
I can walk, crawl, sing, fear
I have no voice
You must be my voice

So You Want A Siamese?
If so, the next question is whether Rescue is the right avenue of adoption for you?
Determining this early on is key. Rescue cats are cats that were no longer wanted or able to be cared for. They are wonderful, deserving cats, but they are not without their issues. Our job, which we take very seriously, is to get to know you, to get to know our cats, and to work together to find a great match.
Because many of these cats come with baggage, Rescue is not always for everyone. We're looking for adopters (Rescuers if you will) who have the patience, understanding and compassion to work through issues that may arise. We're here to help you. If you need a cat within a few days, if you aren't interested in dealing with any issues that may arise, if you must have a specific age and look, Rescue may not be the best solution for you.
The Siamese Rescue website provides a group of individually operated non-profit Rescue Organizations the opportunity to engage in a common purpose and to come together at one Internet presence. Each organization represented here is a separate non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation with its own Board, policies and procedures, but working towards a common goal - to rescue homeless and abandoned Siamese cats and rehome them in carefully screened, permanent situations.
This nationwide effort to rescue Siamese before they are euthanized at shelters requires an enormous amount of time, energy, and money. You won't find a more dedicated group of individuals willing to put forth everything they have to save this wonderful breed. There just isn't enough, however, to go around. Enough transporters, enough fosters, enough money. Many of these cats require extensive medical work to get them back on their feet, and we are willing to do it, if we can.
Please consider supporting any or all of the Center's efforts - if you can donate - whether it be in supplies, in elbow grease, or in funds, your help is key to our success. All of the Centers would greatly appreciate any support you can provide them.
Select the Organization which is closest to you from the links below, and you will be taken to their webpages.
While our focus is on our Rescue Programs, we strive to offer a variety of information and resources related to the Siamese cat. We hope you will enjoy learning more about the breed by joining the family of 'Meezer' friends at the Siamese Internet Cat Club, and if you can't adopt at this point in time, please consider volunteering in one of many ways to help our effort to rescue this most wonderful breed!
Siamese Rescue of Kansas
Siamese Rescue of KS was the first licensed Siamese Rescue organization. It was founded in 1997 and continued until 2004. During this time, they rescued and placed over 834 cats and were active in the placement of many other cats.
"Through a very special cat named Duke, we met Siri, who founded the Siamese Cat Rescue Center in Virginia, and the ball began rolling with the establishment of several other Siamese Rescues across the nation.
While we are very sad to close our doors, we are proud of our accomplishments and the influence we had on cat rescue across the nation." Thank you to our fosters and volunteers who improved the lives of many cats and beans along the way.

Hi there, I'm Alphonso P(ee) Wallabee and I'm one of the 500+ volunteers that work for Siamese Cat Rescue Center (SCRC) throughout their multi-state coverage area, where our jobs are to help Siamese and Siamese mixed cats find new homes. These cats come to us from a wide variety of situations. We try to get to know these cats, focusing on their health and their behavior, match them with families that are comfortable with any issues that they may have, and then transport them home.
SCRC has a shelter facility located in Locust Dale, VA, about 1.5 hours southwest of Washington DC, and foster homes throughout the Eastern US, from Florida to New Hampshire to Indiana & Tennessee. The shelter is open by appointment only, Monday through Sunday. Because our turnover of cats is so great, it's necessary to complete the adoption paperwork prior to coming to adopt, as we can't hold cats for folks unless they are approved adopters. See How to Adopt adoption details.
Our Adoption Program is based on the concept of your "Saving a Life", and our job is to help you be successful in that endeavor.
Our application process is a bit more involved than some, partially because we are internet based and rarely get to meet our adopters in person, but also because we feel that detailed exchanges between the applicant, the foster parent and the interviewer are necessary in order to make sure that you get a cat that will work in your home and the cat gets a home that will work forever. Lifetime relationships are not built overnight, and we pride ourselves in open, honest and frequent communication designed to ensure everyone is happy and the match between adoptive home and adopted cat is a solid one.
Due to the background of the type of cat we usually see, we are looking for adopters who understand that most of these cats come with some baggage. Whether they are medically compromised or behaviorally challenged, these are some of the most wonderfully appreciative cats at being given a second chance. Our fosters are skilled at identifying many medical and behavioral issues, and we share everything we know with you. We ask you, as an adopter, to partner with us in helping provide these cats with the opportunity to recover, learn, and blossom in your home. If you are looking for a "No issues" cat, Rescue may not be the best avenue for you.
We have lots of post adoption mentoring and a family of volunteers behind every adoption. With over 9,000 happy adopters and cats behind us as well as over 15 years of experience, we hope you'll join the Siamese Rescue family by opening your heart and home to a needy Siamese.

Howdy from Texas Siamese Rescue at "Meezer Ranch!" We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been in business since 1998. We are located just north of Dallas in Corinth, TX. We also have rescue affiliates in Houston and Abilene, as well as carefully screened foster homes.
We take our mission here very seriously: to rescue, treat, rehab, house, care, place, transport, and follow up with our Meezers and Meezer Mixes. We make a lifetime commitment to our cats when we bring them into our Rescue, and even when they are adopted into loving homes, we are available to them for the rest of their lives. Caring local veterinarians, staff, and volunteers assist us in our mission. We are supported entirely though grants, sponsorships, and the donations of Meezer lovers like you.
Staff and volunteers perform every task at the ranch, every day of the year. We are always very busy, and need people like you to help out. Though the work is sometimes hard, it is never a burden, because we love those kitties and we love to see them find their forever homes! Are you looking for a new furry family member? Rocky Mountain Siamese Rescue
577 Siamese Rescued!
Rocky Mountain Siamese Rescue is an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to helping as many Siamese and Siamese-mix cats as we can. We are based in Colorado, but it is our intention to serve the West and Midwest. We first became involved in rescue with the Virginia Siamese Cat Rescue Center (VASRC) in early 1998. Our Executive Directors also served on the VASRC Board of Directors from 1999-2001; served as Transport Directors for the Meezer Express from 1999-2002; fostered for Kansas Siamese Rescue for several years before its closing in 2004; and worked with other Colorado volunteers as a chapter of California Siamese Rescue from 2003-2004 before forming our own organization in 2004. We enjoy great working relationships with local shelters and other rescue groups. We do not currently have a rescue building, so we operate with a network of foster homes. We are constantly getting telephone calls from individuals, local shelters, rescue groups and animal hospitals to save Siamese, so our most immediate need is more foster homes and resources toward building our own facility.
As you may imagine, it takes endless amounts of time, money and help from volunteers to keep a rescue running so we can continue to help the cats. Your donations of time, funds and goods are always needed and welcome. We have many different volunteer opportunities to fit your talents and availability. If you would like to donate something but are not sure what we may need, please feel free to check out our Wish List or just contact us directly. We keep our Wish List updated with our most current needs. We also ask that you spread the word about our organization to your friends and family. We are always in need of volunteers and supporters to help our important cause.
Thanks for visiting our site, and for caring enough to make a difference!

Pacific Siamese Rescue
1342 Siamese Rescued!
In 2005, Pacific Siamese Rescue began rescuing Siamese and Siamese mix cats. Cats come to us from a wide variety of situations. We foster them in our homes, and get to know their unique personalities. We then work closely with interested families to make successful matches.
Our foster homes are caring individuals and families who will respond directly to requests for information and (upon approval) arrange for potential adopters to visit cats. Fosters can give you information on any known history as well as insight into the cat's personality.
As with the other sister Centers, our goal is to take homeless and abandoned cats and kittens who, through no fault of their own, have landed into unfortunate if not potentially lethal circumstances. Our goal is to find "forever" homes where they will live the rest of their lives in the midst of a loving family.
This worthy goal takes time, energy, and money, and we need your help. Please consider supporting Pacific Siamese Rescue in any way you can – whether it be time or monetary donations. We need caring foster homes, people to complete our interviews via telephone, or donating a few hours at fundraising events. All of the Centers sharing this web space are self-sufficient in regards to rescue, fundraising, and promotion of our individual organizations.
Thank you for visiting our web pages, and for considering our cats who are hoping for a warm lap to snuggle in and loving arms to cuddle them. We hope you find a furry friend you can't live without.

Southern California Siamese Rescue
1,719 Siamese Rescued!
Southern California Siamese Rescue was born early in 2005, when we decided to divide California Siamese Rescue (CASR) into 2 separate, but closely aligned groups. CASR was extremely successful, but California is a very large state but after much thought, we felt we could provide more and better service to the cats and kittens we rescue if we became two groups.
We've always been amazed at the number of homeless Siamese in the shelters and on the streets. Due to the nature of the Siamese cat, they don't do well in shelters and due to civilization; they don't do well on the streets. That's where we come in. We work extensively with shelters and individuals to save these cats before they are euthanized in the shelters or killed on the streets. We feel that it is not the cat's fault that they become homeless and in order to make sure they don't end up that way again, we provide thorough screening of potential adopters before sending any of our cats to their 'forever' homes.
Prior to adopting out any of our cats, we ensure that they are as healthy as we can make them. In many cases the care needed is extensive and expensive, but to date we have never denied any care deemed necessary by a veterinarian for any of our rescued cats or kittens. It's the law in California that prior to being adopted all cats and kittens must be spayed or neutered as appropriate. In addition, we test all of our cats for Feline Aids and Feline Leukemia prior to adoption. Shots as necessary, treatment for fleas and de-worming are also routine.
Because all of our cats are fostered in private homes, we feel that we can offer insights into their individual personalities and quirks to the potential adopters. We make every attempt to make successful matches from both sides of the adoption process and have had a stellar success rate.
Although we share the website with our sister organizations, we are completely self-sufficient in regards to rescue, policies, fundraising and promotion of our individual organization. Contact us if you are interested in volunteering, donating, fostering or adopting.
