Happy Friday beer fans! Join us for a cold one.
Let's start with some music. This one won't embed so go check it out, see you back here in 3 minutes.
Thrilllist.com has a good piece up with stories about how the beer business used to be. Entertaining stuff, but the guys being interviewed were all salesmen and beer just happened to be the product they sold instead of cars, shoes or computers. For me the killer quote is this, from near the end:
The decline of the Michelob brand in the late ‘80s and ‘90s freed up many ‘upscale’ drinkers to move to imports, Sam Adams, and craft beers. That’s one of the great mysteries of life: what happened to Michelob?
To this guy, the inexplicable decline of Michelob forced Mich drinkers to look for something else; I'd say he has it backwards.
I'm off to the homebrew club officer's meeting, hopefully no one will gratuitously waste time. We'll sip some of the club's keg of Hop Stoopid, but that's not wasting time. What are you drinking? Who's brewing?
