I have been saying this for how long now?  But we got new news that just beats all !!!!

byardl has been posting about different situations in Gainesville at the mental health and substance abuse clinic but this new situation which goes along with my former situation just took the cake.

There is a lady we will call Susie, a veteran who was a social worker and at the drop of a hat will be Baker acted.. ( Involuntarily locked away on a mental ward)   for doing what they consider too dangerous to live in her little apartment..  You know, things like looking tired, having a beer, not keeping an appointment on time !   WHAT !!!!!!

This is documented but what got me was the STATE court who marched into a Federal Facility with a State appointed public defender in my opinion out of their jurisdiction and  would not allow her to call her witnesses, tried to ship her off to a State hospital,
did not declare her incompetent, and would not allow any other doctors on a second opinion to be present.   Top it off... They held this so called court on the Psych ward day room giving directions to another floor and then would not allow any one to testify on the veteran's behalf.   They had a county Magistrate judge.   They claimed she refused involuntary treatment but THEY ARE NOT A RECEIVING hospital and such claims and actions is a Federal thing, and if a state thing, then Scott's people should have been allowed into the VA facilities ( God Forbid).  I told top campaign manager of this State doings to Charlie Crist's people.   This is outrageous

This medical facility is not handicap accessible and they are changing the rules daily.
Lynn has pics to verify this along with a letter from a Baker Act Attorney that clearly states The VA is not a Baker Act receiving hospital so what is happening here?

Whatgodmade had her vet refused to be treated at the VA in Gainesville until he pitched a fit that they were not going to send him to The Vines which is a private hospital and with Scott connections according to whatgodmade.   After he refused to leave, they found him a bed.

I have read more than one account of the dog and pony show that was displayed when acting secretary Sloan Gibson was in town and this is the largest VA receiving the most money.   Lynn is going to post a diary with pictures and this has gone beyond  cruel.  It is IMO, criminal and called false imprisonment.

On Lynn's deal with her friend, she was a social worker and had a lawsuit against the VA.   So, Lock her away till that pesky court thing is settled.   The woman is being deprived of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not to mention the State walking into a day room on the psych ward of a Federal Facility.   Who is allowing this?   The VA administrator.
Watch for Lynn's diary because she has pics and all.   The Gainesville OIG is useless and this thing at Malcom Randall is just getting worse.

Hey vets, don't look tired...you may get locked away if you are in Florida.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Dear Secretary McDonald, (14+ / 0-)

    Common sense says, "What ? ? ?"

Florida VA facilities [including a brand new empty tower they claim they can't staff] need a complete examination with a double-check of the IG's findings.

In order to speak to most of your Florida hospital managers, you will have to go through their lawyers. THE most FUBAR stories I've heard check out as being true. I know VA medical staff in other states who have verified those allegations about Florida.

The time has come to repair this country and care for its' veterans.

Keep in mind the power that the Miller welds in FL.

Always on the want for anything he can make a 'scandal', that'll carry steam forward, for his many called, not so, hearings that give him press coverage of the positive as those never question him about the constant attacks and never a thing coming out of as to help the VA as he's, and co-horts who readily go along with the attacks, charged to do!!

Would make this, probably has already started, sound as if it's a legit move for the State. The press, because it's the oh so poser patriot Miller and has Veterans issues, would sell it further that it is, the wqingnuts would run full bore with same, FOX speak too, and that includes wingnut Veterans getting royally screwed by Miller and company types!!

        nightmares are made of.

Unfortunately, Vetwife and I have been fighting these issues for years. Surely all of our fighting cannot have fallen on deaf ears and blind eyes.  We have to have taken some steps forward, it just seems that they have been micro-mini baby steps.

I look at all the unjustness of it all - Vetwife's husband, my husband, the 92 year old veteran from Fruitland and myself just to name a few.  Underneath all of this flaming red hair (which now comes out of a bottle) there is a head full of pure white hair - and each one has a name and a situation attached to it.

is being called "5R" at Malcolm Randall.  Not only do they not have the staff to open it, 5E has 35 beds/rooms, but they only have the staff for 31 rooms so 4 of them sit empty whilst they ship our vets off to The Vines.

      It is disgraceful.

  •  "Reform" is code for corporate profiteering. (2+ / 0-)

The "let veterans see private sector doctors" sounds like a reasonable patch to and overloaded system, but never forget that the private sector works at a profit.  The key to fixing the VA is giving it good resources and good management.

I'd be very curious to know why the state got involved, and just who stands to profit by having your friend locked away.  In general, these are over-worked people who have to be pushed very hard to take on something that they can reasonably claim is out of their jurisdiction.  I'd bet that someone with clout in the state system stands to profit from privatization of the federal system.

private facilities including prisons down here with his investments.   This is all private crap and has nothing to do with title 38 as there are no contracts via fee basis.  this started long before the call for privatization recently.  This is the result of such a ridiculous notion.   Medicare wrote me regarding VA sending bills to them.....  Think Medicare, federal funds and Scott just rolls right off the tongue.   Miller knows what is happening... He is part of the problem as is Nugent.

in a State mental hospital they get your SS checks.  "Susie" has literally lost all constitutional and civil rights.  She has a vehicle she can't drive and an apartment she can't currently live in (which she hasn't even gotten stuff put away yet with the last move).

And just try to get the Florida ACLU folks to do something.  That is a joke - I have tried to get them involved.
