I received this e-mail today from Charlie Crist's (D. FL) gubernatorial campaign and this is why I am so dedicated to helping him defeat Governor Rick Scott (R. FL) this year:
I want to tell you a short story that I've been thinking about a lot recently, and that I hope explains why I won't stop asking you to give until it hurts.

A few months ago, at one of our Miami office openings, I spotted a young man in a wheelchair in the corner.

I went over to him, kneeled down so I could look him in the eye, and introduced myself. I asked him who he was and why he came to the office opening that day.

He told me his name was Luis. He was disabled and couldn't afford the care he needed because Rick Scott failed to expand health care.

But he wanted to do whatever he could to help us. Luis wanted to donate or volunteer -- whatever it took. He knew that if we could just get rid of Scott, things would get better.

I promised Luis I would do whatever I could to make sure he got the care he needed.

And I told him: He's not alone. Almost 1 million Floridians are struggling, just like him. People are sick. They're going broke. And there's a way to fix it, if Scott chooses to care.

I have met too many people like Luis, who are suffering because of Rick Scott. I'm tired of meeting teachers who lost their jobs, or parents whose kids are in crowded classrooms. My heart breaks with every Floridian who can't marry the person they love.

This race isn't about partisanship or power. It's about the people who need our help

Our vision for Florida is the right one. But being right isn't enough when you're up against $100 million.

This matters. I'm counting on you to step up now. Every single dollar will make a difference:

God bless you,

P.S. -- I'm so grateful to have met Luis. His story has stuck with me.

There are several reasons why I want Crist to beat Scott this year but Medicaid Expansion is the biggest reason. Scott talks about being all about expanding Medicaid but he refuses to do anything about it and has let his party prevent people from getting access to the health care they need. Crist has been one of the biggest and most vocal supporters of the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid Expansion and he has earned my respect and dedication. Please do donate to Crist's campaign so he can defeat Scott and help more Floridans get access to health care:

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
