This is a series of diaries highlighting animal rescues around the country and noting and celebrating the work they do to help animals who have no voices but ours to speak for them. I have decided to make this a daily series because there are so many wonderful rescues out there who need human help and weekly just doesn't seem to be enough. I have long wanted to start a rescue but lack the resources or time available to do so right now so this is my attempt to do my part. I hope that these rescues will benefit from the kindness and benevolence of the community here at Daily Kos. They are amazing organizations and worthy of Kossack attention and care.
I am here, alive and all around you
I have no voice
In your trees, your air, your fields, your oceans, your world
I have no voice
I am a mother, a father, a protector, a soul
I have no voice
I can walk, crawl, sing, fear
I have no voice
You must be my voice

The Meaning of Rescue
Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed
All nicely tucked into my warm new bed
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget
There is so much to carry-
So much to regret. Hmmmm…..
Yes, there it is, right on the top.
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss
And there by my bed, hide Fear and Shame
As I look on these things I tried hard to leave
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain
I love them, the others, the ones who left me
But I was not good enough - For they did not want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Or will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage
And never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?

Welcome to Forever Home Dog Rescue! We have a great group of dogs looking for their forever families and homes. Our volunteers are dedicated to matching the needs and personality of our dogs with your family. We are not in a hurry to adopt out our dogs; we want to make sure the match is perfect for everyone. All of the dogs in our rescue live in our homes with both the human and furry members of our families. Our adoption process begins with an application which can be found by clicking the above link. Please complete the form in full; the questions we ask help us understand what type of dog you are looking for. Incomplete applications will not be processed. We will contact your Veterinarian, so please make sure to call them to release your vet history to our volunteer. If you rent, the first call we will make will be to your landlord. After these checks are made, you will receive an e-mail inviting you to our next adoption event which is held every Sunday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, at PetsMart in Crossgates Commons, 161 Washington Ave., Ext., Albany, NY 12210, right behind Wal-Mart to meet the dog(s) you are interested in. After we meet you at PetsMart, we will speak to your personal references and call you to schedule a home visit with the dog you are interested in adding to your family. All members of the family must be present at the time of the home visit. If at that time everyone, including the dog is comfortable with the visit, the adoption can take place. We ask for a minimum adoption donation of $250.00 to help us cover transportation and veterinary expenses incurred. All of our dogs are altered, up to date on their vaccines, microchipped, heartworm tested (age appropriate) and already receiving heartworm and flea and tick prevention before being adopted. *Please note - we are only able to accept applications from locations within a 50 mile radius of the Albany International Airport* Thank you for visiting our website and remember, rescue dogs are the best!

About Lacey
Hi all, my name is Lacey. I have been in my foster home for quite a while now. I have learned so many things that have made me a better dog. I came from Kentucky where I was found as a stray in pretty rough shape, just skin and bones. I have put that life behind me and I am ready to be a member of my forever family. While I like it here with mom and the other dog's, nothing is like having your own family. I am about 3 years old and 45 pounds. I carried some insecurities from my past and in the beginning I was not a very nice dog to the other dog's here. I have learned it's not acceptable behavior to be possessive of toy's or bone's, there are plenty here for all us us and then some. I also learned that I did not have to be snotty to the other dog's when it came to getting attention from mom, she has enough love to give to all of us. My forever family must be experienced and confident so I don't have to worry about taking care of myself, I want you to make sure that I am always safe. I live with many dog's, sometimes there are 16 of us here and I get along with everyone. I love to run and play with them, but if I think one of them is getting to rough with me or trying to dominate me my knee jerk reaction is to put them in their place, things can get a little rough if they won't back down because I won't either. Aside from these few things I am a HUGE lovebug. I LOVE to cuddle and snuggle and give kisses! I get excited easy especially when I see mom putting on her shoes and coat, I know she is going outside with us and I get all kind of crazy, jumping on her, mouthing her hands and nibbling on her clothes. I just have quite a bit of energy and it overspills when I get happy and excited. I have a huge prey drive, I hate it when those squirrels sit up on the hill or in the tree and make noises at me! For everyone's happiness and safety, a home without a cat or caged critters please. While I'm not a big girl I have springs in my feet and can easily jump a 5 foot fence, so a 6 foot secure one will do the trick for me. If you will be active with me and take me running or some agility maneuvers I won't be mischievous and try to dig out either. Due to my insecurities especially with other dog's that I do not know, I'm not a good choice for playing in a dog park. I am fine with dog's I know, but those I don't, I'm afraid they will attack me. So, as you can read for yourself, I have some quirks that aren't very becoming, but underneath the tough side of me I hope you will see how loveable I am. Dog's and people all have good and not so good things about us but we are who we are and that's what makes up our personalities. I think once you spend some time with me you will see the diamond in the ruff my foster mom has. I would love it if you came to PetsMart on Sunday from 11-2 and checked me out, I'm the pretty blonde girl :)
About Sugar Bear
Hello my name is Sugar Bear, my mom calls me Sugar or Sugitty. I'm originally from Kentucky where I was found as a stray. I'm young, about 1 year old and 10 pounds, so I'm a little girl under my curly locks. I am very sweet and want to always be around you. If you are sitting on the couch I am on the back of it right next to your head. When it's bedtime, I hop right up on the bed and find my place near moms head. Did I mention I like to be cuddled?? If you are looking for a little shadow that will love you to the moon and back, I am your girl. Currently I am living with a bunch of dog's, most of them are bigger then me so I haven't interacted with them. There is a little one, just my size and I would love it if she would play with me, but that hasn't happened yet. My forever home should have someone home most of the time. Kid's would be a bonus, but they must be respectful of my size. I'm not a little girl that needs to be carried around, following you suits me just fine. I am working on my housebreaking habits. I will be at PetsMart on Sunday from 11-2, if you would like to meet me in person, please stop by and say hi!
