H/T little green footballs
Here is deputy managing editor Adam Goodman's statement.
In response to a number of inquiries today, I wanted to confirm that the Post-Dispatch filed a petition last week with the St. Louis County Family Court seeking the release of any juvenile court records it may have relating to Michael Brown.
The court filing is just one avenue of many in our continuing commitment to cover a significant news story for our community.
We have taken this action as a professional news organization, independently and not in conjunction with any other organization, as we seek to report facts and not rely on innuendo or speculation.
The last paragraph in that stament is interesting because according to Charles Johnson at lgf, right wing blogger Charles
C. Johnson
had been bragging about working with the Post-Dispatch looking for any information they could get their hands on to smear Michael and his family. Here's part of what the asshole wrote
on his site.
Knowing the truth about Brown’s past will help us gauge the credibility of his parents and family who have called him a “gentle giant.” Brown’s strong-arm robbery of a shopkeeper would seem to put the lie to this narrative but it remains ... The only thing that we do have is the public record but unfortunately the St. Louis County court doesn’t want it released. It’s irresponsible to keep that information from the public if it changes the public’s mind of the character of Michael Brown.
Right, now why the fuck is it so important to change the public's perception about the unarmed teenager who was shot to death by a cop? If any records do exist, what possible relevance do they have in in relation to the shooting? Other than assassinating the character of Michael, that is.
