Remember when they used to mention Sen. Elizabeth Warren and NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio in the same sentence? No one is doing that anymore.
I wonder how NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio expects NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo to reward him for his
pathetic devotion.
Under attack by liberals, Gov. Cuomo’s running mate Kathy Hochul will receive a ringing endorsement Wednesday from the leader of the state’s progressive Democrats, Mayor de Blasio, the Daily News has learned [...]
“There is no question that Kathy Hochul is the lieutenant governor that New York City needs,” de Blasio told The News.
In other words, de Blasio thinks that New York City needs someone who ... well, let me use the New York Time's
exact words:
... when [Hochul] ran unsuccessfully for re-election to Congress in 2012, her campaign featured the endorsement from the National Rifle Association. The N.R.A. said at the time that she had “a proven record of defending the Second Amendment.”
She also boasted repeatedly that she had voted many times against “Obamacare.” She strongly opposed allowing undocumented immigrants to have drivers’ licenses. And during her short time in Congress, environmentalists criticized many of her votes, including those to repeal emission standards for cement manufacturers and to allow fewer controls on open pit mines and other polluting industries.
In other words, de Blasio thinks NYC needs more guns, more uninsured, and more pollution. If he's really the "leader of the state’s progressive Democrats," there needs to be a change in leadership. Particularly the way
Cuomo treated de Blasio in the first few months in office. (Head below the fold if you want the reminder.)
Please give $3 to help Tim Wu stop Andrew Cuomo's hand-picked conservative lackey.
In his first two months in office, Mayor Bill de Blasio has found himself repeatedly at odds with New York’s governor, Andrew M. Cuomo. And at every turn, Governor Cuomo has not only stymied the mayor, but also seized the moment for his own gain.
As the mayor has pushed for a tax increase on New York City’s wealthiest residents, the governor has turned the tables and talked up his desire to cut taxes. When the mayor proposed raising the minimum wage in the city, the governor derided the idea as illogical.
Even the mundane municipal matter of snow removal became fodder for a Cuomo tweak; at one point, the governor seemed to imply that Mr. de Blasio had not stocked up on enough salt to respond to a recent blizzard.
De Blasio, a Critic of Charter Schools, May Need Them for His Pre-K AgendaJAN. 16, 2014
Mr. Cuomo took advantage again this week, styling himself as a champion of charter schools just as Mr. de Blasio took steps to curb their expansion.
Yup. Pathetic.
