Monday! There are a lot of weird and wonderful words in the English language =) Let's learn some new ones!
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group gives Kossacks a safe place to check in, a daily diary where we can let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, earthquakes, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It also allows us to find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, earthquakes etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a Kosmail and ask to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
We do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
I chose words that I personally have never heard used. There are hundreds more at the links, especially the second one.
Sadly, I know quite a few fribblers in New York. In the past five years, though, two have finally married. One was 48, the other over 50. I was getting tired of listening to their tales of woe :)
5. FRIBBLER
Though this term comes from the 18th century, chances are you know a fribbler. He says he's really into a lady, but just won't commit. The behavior of a fribbler was called fribbledom, by the way.
"Oh, John? Yes, he's quite amusing, but a terrible fribbler."
I think that I will get a LOT of use out of this one on Twitter =)
9. MUMPSIMUS
This Middle English word originally meant "an incorrigible, dogmatic old pedant," but eventually came to refer to an incorrect opinion that someone clung to. According to Kacirk, the word originated with an illiterate 15th century clergyman, who incorrectly copied the Latin word sumpsimus and read it in mass.
"While you are of course entitled to your mumpsimus, I do not want it despoiling my TL." Or, shorter:
"Take your mumpsimus and GTFO my TL!"
This one just sounds so...apt.
11. NIMGIMMER
A 17th century term for a surgeon who specialized in curing pox or the clap.
"Bill awoke, aghast, and realized that he had to visit the nimgimmer posthaste."

I absolutely love this one:
absquatulate
to leave somewhere abruptly
"Come quickly, children, we must absquatulate! The bear sees us!"
How very...uh...descriptive!
borborygmus
a rumbling or gurgling noise in the intestines
"During a lull in the conversation, everyone at the table became aware of borborygmus emanating from Miss Cordelia's furiously blushing escort."
This word seems rather French:
colporteur
a person who peddles books, newspapers, or other writings, especially bibles and religious tracts
"My morning musings were rudely interrupted by the arrival of our neighborhood colporteur."
Many, many more
What a FUN word :)
Flambuginous - A sham, deception, ficticious.
"Why, Pat, I just don't know how you can keep believing this flambuginous Fox nonsense!"
Sorry, couldn't resist this one:
Kakistocracy - A government that's run by its worst citizens.
"The GOP House is a kakistocracy run amok!"
I was once one of these....
Noceur - A person who stays up late.
"Known as a raconteur, Charles was also a noceur who could discourse coherently long after dawn had broken, while those around him passed out on the sofas."

World Wide Words has hundreds more weird words.
All quotes in italics my own words. One must always use new words in a sentence :)
Wishing everyone a peaceful Monday!
