See how much he cares about women? He spent money on a pink sign.
Remember Rep. Steve Southerland, the Florida Republican who
gained infamy with his men-only fundraising ("tell the misses not to wait up") and lame defense of his men-only fundraising ("Listen: Has Gwen Graham ever been to a lingerie shower? Ask her.")? He's back in the news,
hilariously attempting to mend some fences with the ladies.
That’s in part how, on Sept. 27, a handful of female Republican officeholders descended upon Panama City Beach. Besides [Wyoming Republican Rep. Cynthia] Lummis, Rep. Martha Roby drove that morning from her home in Montgomery, Ala., with her young daughter to attend the rally. Former Arkansas First Lady Janet Huckabee was also in attendance.
Pink is the event's color of choice, filling signs and attire. Dozens of women sport pink Southerland campaign shirts as the congressman's family and campaign staff pass out pink "Women for Southerland" bumper stickers.
This is what a GOP counteroffensive on gender looks like.
In other words: Let's slap some pink on that shit and call it "support for women." Yeah, that'll work. It will completely make women forget about how he
voted against final reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, a vote he's tried to hide from voters.
He also falls back on that tripe among Republicans that's getting really old. Just like Scott Brown, he lives with women, so that qualifies him as, well, something.
"This fallacy that I don't care for women, I think, is crazy," Southerland said in an interview. "Listen, I live with five women. My business partner is a woman. I've got more women on my congressional staff than I do men."
Meanwhile, he's also
voting against Paycheck Fairness, so all that "caring" for women definitely has its limits. There's not enough pink paint in the world to cover that up.
Please chip in $3 to remind Republicans that women can see through their pink-washing.
