Or you could just get over yourself.
In the wake of the Supreme Court bowing out of the anti-marriage-equality fight, opponents of that equality vow to fight on. Even for them, though, the goalposts are shifting.
Opponents of same-sex marriage like Mr. Campbell and Mr. Brown say their goal at this point is not to return to the days when it was illegal everywhere, but to allow individual states to decide, whether through legislation or plebiscite.
Mr. Brown said that his group would also press for a constitutional amendment declaring the right of states to define marriage and that, in the coming elections, it would target Republicans who strayed from the traditional line on marriage.
Demanding that individual states still be allowed to retain their cultural heritage of treating people like crap even after the point when the rest of the country can no longer stomach it is indeed the last battlefront of any civil rights debate.
Meanwhile ex-Arkansas governor, onetime presidential primary contender and current conservative radio host Mike Huckabee went on a radio show run by a SPLC-designated hate group to vow that if Republicans soften their opposition to same-sex marriage he'll bolt the party.
If the Republicans wanna lose guys like me, and a whole bunch of still God-fearing Bible-believing people, go ahead and just abdicate on this issue, and go ahead and say abortion doesn’t matter, either. Because at that point, you lose me, I’m gone. I’ll become an independent, I’ll start finding people that have guts to stand, I’m tired of this.
It's a little bit adorable that Mike Huckabee thinks the Republican Party would give a crap. The Republican Party would feed Mike Huckabee's mother into a wood chipper if they thought it would get them ten more votes in Ohio. Still, they'll probably try to ride this horse through the next several elections, being the party of slow learners, etc., until some George H.W. Bush of the future instead gets them all worked up about flag burning or whatever the next existential threat to decent people's freedom is supposed to be.
