Oregonians need to be aware. There is a race between Republican Kathy Goss and Democrat Paul Evans for House District 20. We just got a very sincere sounding letter sent to just the females in our family in support of Kathy Goss. It is a dirty trick!
Most of the content isn't too bad. It praises Goss to the skies, but then gives an unsupported statement that the Evans campaign spread lies about his opponent.
Goss showed, in the one debate she bothered to attend, that she is not equipped for the 21st Century, and that she would like to drag us back into the 19th. She favors wasting money to do away with our vote by mail, cutting jobs and recreational benefits by reducing bike trails, taking away affordable health care, and other things popular with people owned by big business.
I am disgusted with the letter sent to us. It is a clear attempt to influence votes. Evans is a veteran and was mayor of Monmouth for a time. Those who live around this area had no problems with him. No one thought it was shocking that he authored a book about vampires. No one drew the conclusions that he was a bad man because of that. That is, at least, until the campaign. As for that, the article states:
The book was basically a group writing project for some of the troops I was leading as a way of keeping them distracted in between mortar attacks. These were young men and women stationed in Iraq in the middle of a war zone, putting their lives on the line for their country. We needed a way to keep their minds occupied between attacks, and several of them wanted to try writing a book. By the way, the goal was always to donate the proceeds—if there were any—to the USO.
It's not a surprise to see these kinds of campaign tactics from an extreme right-wing group like Oregon Family Council, but let's be clear, this is par for the course from the entire Goss campaign. These are the kinds of tactics that we've seen all along, and unfortunately we can probably expect them to continue."
An article in Oregon's Polk County newspaper talks about how ugly the race has become. Probably neither candidate is perfect [insert grinning smiley here]. However, if Kathy suffered from hearing her ideas booed by the crowd, it is her problem, not some plot!
I'd be more impressed with her if she hadn't cancelled other debates and if I hadn't seen, first hand, that her campaign is being underhanded in their fight to get her elected.
We all need to get out and vote to stop awful people from getting elected!
