Like many of you, I tend to think that all polls are garbage unless they confirm my hopes. That's why I was very pleased to see that Arizona gubernatorial candidate Fred Duval is doing quite well, thank you.
The first inkling of movement towards Duval came last week when Arizona Republic reporter Yvonne Wingett Sanchez took a break from retweeting talking points from Republican operatives to post this:
I didn't read too much into it. I'd expect a lead like that from a Democrat in that district, it was carried by Barack Obama after all.
(This is a fact that Kyrsten Sinema should try to remember the next time she thinks she needs to outdo Ron Barber in the Obama bashing department.)
I needed more information. Actually, I got Moore Information. This from yesterday's triumphant press release from Duval's campaign:
Business and education leader Fred DuVal is leading the race to become Arizona’s next governor, according to a new independent poll released yesterday.
The live-caller poll, conducted October 7-8 by Moore Information, a Republican polling firm that has worked for Governor Jan Brewer and the Republican Governors Association, shows Fred DuVal ahead of Doug Ducey 39-36 in the race for Arizona governor. There has been a 10-point swing in DuVal’s favor since Moore Information last polled the race in September.
The results of Moore Information’s poll confirm the results of a poll reported by Yvonne Wingett Sanchez of the Arizona Republic on Thursday night, showing Fred DuVal ahead of Doug Ducey in Phoenix-based swing district Congressional District Nine 51-38, which pointed to a statewide DuVal lead of two points.
Well, there you go.
I haven't seen the breakdown by congressional district, but I wonder what this means for Ann Kirkpatrick and Ron Barber. Yes, different races, but it definitely means that a Republican wave is not crashing on the banks of the Colorado and San Pedro.
