Yesterday Dr. West made a clarion call to action that MSNBC (video here) ran today (10-14-14) inside a story about the Moral Monday direct action at the night football game in St. Louis. Today Rev. Osagyefo Sekou and Dr. Cornel West interviewed jointly (video here) on Ronan Farrow Daily
Rev. Sekou (tweets) and Dr. West (tweets) were on an extremely thoughtful panel Wed. Oct. 1st at Union Theological Seminary, "A Reflection on Ferguson: An Intergenerational Dialogue on Activism, Experience, and Transformation" (2-hr. video here) in which Ms. Khadijah Abdul-Mateen in her outstanding presentation (begins at 08:54) asked (15:47-16:35)"...how do we respond to this theologically? ...why do we have to convince you that we are human? ... why are we constantly dying? ..."
Last night All In with Chris Hayes had this excellent feature (video) that included reports of the Moral Monday actions (10-13-14) and an extended clip of the high-point during the Sunday night (10-12-14) Mass Meeting: An Interfaith Service at St. Louis University’s Chaifetz Arena. Here is a video clip of Dr. West's Sunday night speech that lead into to the challenges the young people made.
An indifferent Saint Louis University student who is undergoing a raising of her awareness expresses gratitude (Video) to OccupySLU for coming on campus 2am Monday morning and giving SLU students a serious learning moment.
The Stenger/McCaskill fundraiser also was the site of Moral Monday direct action (video here) in the Ferguson October national action campaign:
Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment (MORE) and participants in Ferguson October are protesting outside in outrage at a fundraiser for Steve Stenger, the candidate for County Executive known for his close ties to defenders of Darren Wilson and with Bob McCulloch the county attorney who has so far refused to bring charges against Darren Wilson or to seek justice in the case of on-going police violence in St. Louis County.
“It should be a shameful day for Senator McCaskill when at the same time that the people of St. Louis are pushing so hard for justice, she is raising funds for someone with aspirations to block it,” says Derek Laney, a member of MORE.
The group is sitting down outside the fundraiser risking arrest in civil disobedience asking which side are the elected officials on and ask them to join the right side of history.
Laney adds, “It is rare that there is such a clear line between those defending a violent status quo and those urging us forward toward justice. As Dr. King Jr said, ‘The hottest place in Hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in times of great moral conflict.’ One could say, we have come save their souls.”
