Scratch the One Walmart at a time part, a practice we did in the late 90's and early 2000's. Seems Walmart for the most part no longer allows overnight guest in its parking lot, and people on the phone were openly hostile towards the idea, going so far as to threaten to call security and and/or the police if they found us car camping in their parking lot. SCREW WALMART, I will shop Unionized stores now, and voice my opinion with my money!
I recently purchased a used RV to use while traveling around the country. I opt'ed for a 1995 Toyota Dolphin V6. t is a Toyota truck with a fully equip'ed camper mounted to it. It has everything one needs for a cross country trip. Comfy bed. Generator, Toilet, Shower, Microwave, refrigerator (gas/electric), lots of cupboard space, (I plan n packing food!) and a full closet, what else is there? Oh TV and Google TV, with Netflix for unwinding after a day of driving!
I have always wanted to do a Walmart trip since reading about people car camping in Walmart parking lots for the last few years. Just point the car to the road and go! Well, old age and disability make car camping and the freedom it offers a little out of reach, but with a compact RV, and the comforts of home, I think I can have a "taste" oof the freedom, while living with the truth of being a disabled veteran and requiring a few comforts, like running water for meds and "procedures", a warm shower to relax tighting muscles and relax a bad back.
I have for many, many years wanted to go back to Yellowstone for a visit. The last time I was in yellowstone I was maybe 10! It has been a long time dream of mine to go again as an adult and see the wonders there!
WALMART - change is not always good!
I travel across the country in the late 90's annd early 2000's when my health was better car camping in Walmart's along the way. Of course they supplied 100% of my travel and comfort needs while traveling, and I was a loyal Walmart Customer since then for this very reason. While planning this trip, I called all the Walmarts along the way from Napa, CA to Seattle WA, every OR. Walmart said the same thing to greater or lessor degrees of hostility, they no longer allow overnight guests in their parking lots. So uch for reliving those memories!
Since I detest Walmart's business practices, over seas manuufacturing in sweatshop like condition, how hostile it is to its customer's and how hostile many werre to me on the phone, I am MOTIVATED on this trip to ONLY shop at Unionized stores on my trip. Many unions make this very easy to do in fact!
As a Walmart Shareholder, I now believe that Walmart has grown to big, and no longer respects its workers, or potential customers. Monday I will divest my portfolio of ever Walmart Share, and invest in a Unionized competitor, or which their are several to choose from! At the shareholders meeting I saw an employee organization called Walmart RESPECT protesting outside, I will make it my mission when I return to I will seek out this group in my area and see how I can contribute and help their struggle.
yes, it started out as just planning for a vacation, but now it has become the beginning of a mission!
