The Daily Bucket is a regular series from the Backyard Science group. Here we talk about Mother Nature in all her glory, especially the parts that live nearby. So let us know (as close as you are comfortable) where you are and what's going on around you. What's the weather like? Seen any interesting plants, bugs or critters? Are there birds at your feeders? Deer, foxes or peahens in your yard? Seen any cool rocks or geological features? Post your observations and notes here. And photos. We like lots of photos. :)
While visiting the Tampa Aquarium recently, I spent the afternoon out on the dolphin tour boat. Some photos from my visit:
Sea Dragon
Jellyfish
Out in the Bay. The small islands are made from dredge material. They are protected bird nesting sanctuaries.
A tugboat bringing in a cargo ship. Tampa is Florida's second-busiest port.
The drydock where ships are repaired.
Pelicans and Cormorants hanging out on a buoy.
Pelican gliding alongside the boat.
And a Sandwich Tern flying alongside the boat.
A Pelican makes a catch.
A Laughing Gull flaps by with a fish in his mouth.
Downtown Tampa from the boat.
Another tourist boat, the Starship, passes by.
The SS American Victory, a World War 2 cargo ship now docked as a floating museum.
The only dolphin sighting we had--a dorsal fin in the distance.
And now it's your turn--what's going on in your neck of the woods?
