Chris Christie, bless his heart, does not subscribe to the "soft bigotry of low expectations." He's "tired" of hearing about the minimum wage and believes parents should aspire to more than that for their children.
Joan McCarter does a good job of highlighting the stupidity of that statement. But my thoughts naturally turn to Christie's original sin -- The premeditated, craven, pandering, reckless, destructive killing of the ARC Tunnel between New Jersey and New York, or as I call it:
TUNNEL-CIDE
Y'know what pays well above the minimum wage, Governor -- Construction jobs that you killed when you
committed Tunnel-Cide.
Other studies cited by the GAO estimated that the project would have provided about 59,900 jobs directly on site during construction and total employment of about 98,300 in the region. Ten years after completion, the project wold have added 44,000 new jobs and almost $4 billion in personal income, according to the report.
Basic construction work pays
$40-60,000 a year in NJ.
Are you a structural iron or steel worker? Their average pay in NJ is $86,520.
What about a plumber in New Jersey who can make $70,000?
So spare me your nonsense about aspirations beyond the minimum wage, Christie. We hold you personally responsible for killing nearly 60,000 jobs in NJ and 100,000 jobs in the region.
And I'm not even talking about your fouling the air that my family breathes for years, and the likely Traffic Apocalypse when Sandy damage closes one or both of the antiquated tunnels.
I'm tired too, Governor. Tired of politicians like you who for a (now remote) shot at being President, will sell out a hundred thousand workers, millions of commuters and the health of anyone who breathes between New Brunswick and White Plains.
