..a sampling that is being touted as evidence of (the thoroughly debunked claim of) voter fraud. A "sampling" republicans are anxiously using to justify enacting laws that violate the right of every citizen to participate in our democracy. (h/t to Libby Shaw)
They are grasping
Even going so far as claiming that Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) likely won election in 2008 and that President Obama only won North Carolina aided by this alleged fraud.
This recent story by Jesse Richman and David Earnest is claiming to have shown that 14% of non-citizens that allegedly "Self reported and/or verified" to have voted illegally, will now "plausibly" help Democrats hold on to the senate this November midterm.
So therefore, republicans are completely justified in violating the Voting Rights Act...?
Like Hell they are
But that is what the rwnj's are gleefully spewing as hard and fast as they can. And probably breathing a huge sigh of relief over the thrashing they've been taking in many media outlets for their assault on voters, fearing a backlash like what happened in Florida that had Karl Rove shitting in his pants leaving him thoroughly disgraced. Or should have if he had any grace to begin with
The so called "data" behind this claim..
..based upon extrapolations from the portion of the sample
..was fetched from this outfit;
cooperative congressional election study where the most I could get access to was this "study" or
questionnaire (pdf), finding only this one question on non-citizenship voting:
Which of these statements best describes you?
I am an immigrant to the USA and a naturalized citizen
I am an immigrant to the USA but not a citizen
I was born in the USA but at least one of my parents is an immigrant
My parents and I were born in the USA but at least one of my grandparents was an immigrant
My parents, grandparents and I were all born in the USA
..but was unable to
locate the answers to any of the questions or any actual data.
What I found is as posted: "extrapolation" - aka guesswork:
Our best guess, based upon extrapolations from the portion of the sample..
So I have a question or two. Since when does a sampling of poll questions put out by
'scientists' add up to "provide sufficient samples" to make these claims?
And what non-citizen goes to the ballot place, votes illegally and then voluntarily admits, or as posted; "Self reported" that they have just committed a crime? - what a load that is
WTF is happening here? Is the James O'Keefe method of mixing idiocy & dishonestly in fabricating fraud for partisan gain and to camouflage unconstitutional infringement of a persons right to vote, becoming a thing now? Isn't disguising fraud by fabricating it the story worth covering instead?

What I did find elsewhere is a lot of actual research done:
The Myth of Widespread Non-Citizen Voting: A Response to the Heritage Foundation (pdf) that came out around the same time and completely debunks the 2008 "data" claimed by CCES and conniving right wing nutters llke the white supremacist and founder Paul Weyrich (videos @ link) of the Heritage Foundation, John Fund, and Von Spakovsky, with more myth busting thanks to the work in the New Yorker by Jane Mayer | October 2012 - The Voter-Fraud Myth: The man who has stoked fear about impostors at the polls.
Or this earlier report: An Analysis of Voter Fraud in The United States (pdf) by Lorraine C. Minnite, Senior Fellow, Demos
Also more from the Brennen Center (pdf): The Truth about Voter Fraud by Justin Levitt

So with a H/T to Kossack jamess for this link to the Bill Moyers & Company telling it like it is:
Six of the most unbelievable Republican statements about voter suppression..just to get an idea how down low the republican will stoop in their efforts to hide what the GOP is really about - voter suppression
This is just my opinion, yet I've been expecting this next wave of deceit coming at us for a while now.
When the corruption we've been witnessing is shown to be the doing of one rwnj party and spreads as far as the powerful US Supreme Court making it into the MSM a bit too often and perhaps a bit too credibly to overlook, threatening 'headline hang time', it was only a matter of time before the beltway pundits would be forced to clean up appearances; to "restore balance"
I do really hope we win this November, but of course now that this story is out there, the seed has been planted: It was fraud, once again, that enabled the Democrats to take the White House - twice and any other Dem victory will be sullied just the same.
After all, "balance" is key in reporting these days
