It isn't just a bizarre sketch, it is not funny. The sketch opens with the Obama stand in going through all of the (Republican promoted) "scandals" with him agreeing they were, if not scandals, incompetence. But then it gets really, really weird when the Ron Klain stand in comes out. The first "press" questioner parrots Republican talking point asking why Klain isn't a doctor. But it is the second questioner who goes beyond unfunny to dangerous by asking about Ebola's dangers. The Ron Klain stand in says the obvious that many more people die of the flu and they should be more worried about that. And then the "comedian" answers that only .01 percent of people die from the flu while 50% die of Ebola. Talk about screaming fire in a crowded theater. This part of the sketch literally made me sick. And if you look closely there is a portrait of Reagan in the back of the press corps. What is the reason for that.
This is one of the weirdest moments I have seen not just on SNL but on television in general. And it wasn't done for laughs because it wasn't funny (Until Keenan Thompson came out but his Sharpton bit had nothing to do with the rest of the sketch). Was this an attempt to satirize the media that went completely wrong? Or is something really dark going on at NBC?
