I made GOTV calls yesterday into my home state of Kentucky and got the opportunity to talk with a Democratic voter, 81 year old Gloria. She shared that she “used to work the polls years ago” but that she “really couldn’t drive too well” so she wasn’t sure she could make it this year.
I told her how close this election was, which she hadn’t known, and she told me “well, my son has been out at the Ford plant talkin’ to people about Alison.”
I suggested maybe he could help her get to the polls, but she informed me he would be “workin’ at the Ford plant, so he will only be able to take himself there around noon on his lunch break”. That, according to Gloria is also “about the earliest that my joints will warm up enough to let me get around”.
I said, “Well hey! that still gives you six hours and this could finally be the year that we kick Mitch McConnell out of office.” I asked her if she could picture November 5th, when he no longer represents us.
Her response was priceless. “I can sure as hell picture what it will be like if not. The same as it’s always been.”
Gloria participates in the Meals on Wheels program and hasn’t seen much in the way of security as she gets older. Getting Mitch out of office is one way we can do our part for Gloria, who worked the polls for years, hoping to see a Democratic senator elected in Kentucky.
Can you make calls today to protect things like Social Security from Mitch and his corporate backers? Do it for Gloria!
