I applied for disability 120 days ago or so.
For those who do not know, I suffer from several severe medical conditions (SLE, seizure disorder, etc) which have been written about on here before, so I will not bore everyone with the details once again.
I was told there was no way I would get approved the first go-around, since 90 to 95 percent of people are denied the first go around, I am :young: (45), and I have the Ph.D., in the past.
Sure enough I got rejected.
It just blows my mind, though.
I take 9 different meds now, for a total of 23 pills a day, which make me tired all day, and pretty much knock me out all day. I am unable to walk long distances or stand for every long without feeling dizzy or faint, and I get denied.
I am not just writing this to seem like a crotchety old (Well, if you ask ss :young: man)....I went to their office for testing and saw and talked to people a lot worse off than I, and they told me horror stories of being denied two or three times already before they were accepted, etc.
It is obvious to me the system does not work. I do not know the solution, I just know the system does not work the way it is set up. It is as if people are assumed to be Olympians and unless they are bleeding out an orifice or two during the time of the interview, they are screwed.
It is a catch 22. I cannot apply for unemployment since to do so would mean I am "actively" looking for work, and thus would be unale to claim disability if I got a job, so I have to forego work, obviously. Lord knows I have tried to find a job but when I do I hear the
"OH.... you can't do X.....we'll get back to you....."
line one two many times,
So basically I can't claim unemployment, because I would lose any chance of disability, but I am not 'disabled' enough to claim disability, but I am too disabled to get a job.
Great system we have here.
