Standard advertisement: Wreck List is the Daily Kos World of Warcraft guild. We are Horde-side on the Garrosh server. We're getting close to the membership cap, so we'll have to put you on a waiting list if you want to join. To get on the list, read this diary and visit the Guild web site. Yes, you have to be Horde. No, you don't have to be hardcore - casuals, PvPers, and people that just want to hang out on guild chat are all welcome. |
More below the fold:
So it's finally Drop Day. I came across this infographic from Mr. Robot which provides helpful suggestions as to what the hell to do with your garrison. Suggestions only, as the garrison system seems flexible enough to survive even my flailing about.
I won't post anything else spoilerish, as I got up at 4:30 AM to start leveling and I don't remember much. Except how marvelously, fantastically ugly my garrison is. And a bunch of orcs with daddy issues.
Let's start with the Team Z report from Tvath:
Team Z has battled our way through all the bosses of Pandaria, and after our Garrosh kill, there were a couple who stood out in our minds as needing to be squashed again, really hard.
Two weeks ago we downed one of them, Elegon, and got a guild achievement for clearing Heroic Mogu'shan Vaults. This week we targeted Garalon, a great big ugly insect beast who caused us no end of trouble back in the Mists of time.
This time, of course, we brought much more firepower to the Heart of Fear, a whole raid tier of disgusting insects who deserve a good swatting. We gave it to them, clearing all six bosses in less than three hours, and earning another guild achievement.
Well. Turned out that by clearing just four more, we could earn a guildwide mount. Off to Terrace of the Endless Spring we went, with the first three falling easily.
Heroic Sha of Fear is ... fascinating. The fight starts off just like the normal version, but then at 66% you go to this big blank purple zone (maybe they ran out of time to build an environment for it?) where there are all kinds of brand-new mechanics to learn. It took us a few tries, and kept some of us up past our bedtimes on a work night, but we did it! Thundering Jade Cloud Serpents are now available (for 3,000 gold) to anyone in the guild, and Team Z (plus Swyftlyght, subbing in like the awesome person he is) gets a new title, "the Fearless."
We even got a fun achievement with a Dune-based title -- "The Mind-Killer."
This was a really fun night. Who says it has to be dull just before the expansion drops? Onward to Draenor and new worlds to conquer.

Thanks for the Thundering Cloud Serpent, Team Z! Now on to the Team Kaels report from Ninotchka:
I figured I’d write my weekly raid report today because tomorrow I’m going to be, uh, doing something else. Something to do with orcs, I dunno.
Anyhow, the final Tuesday night flexorama in Siege of Orgrimmar was not a complete success. We had a lockout to Malkorok, but we didn’t manage to reach Garrosh in our strictly allotted hour and a half time slot. I now DO have a lockout to Garrosh, however, and the plan is that Wednesday night we will be running repeated Last Chance At An Heirloom runs. I can’t be too active a part of this because I need to grind familial reputation, but I do expect that there will be a number of people online and playing.
Team Kaels wasn’t going to do any mythic raiding until December, but we discovered that there were a number of people who really wanted to get some mythic bosses killed in the waning moments of the expansion. Last night we downed Malkorok, after a great deal of positioning stress and group redesign, and one-shot Spoils. We went in to try Blackfuse in the last half hour of our raid time, but we weren’t quite able to get the zerg tactic working. Fire… so much fire…
Anyhow, raiding is over with until December except for that last gasp tonight. Quests! Level dings! Garrisons! Dungeons!
It’s good to have an expansion to play through at last.

Here is Part One of the the Team PapaMama report from Papagenia:
Team PamaMama and other things report:
First report from newly reconstituted Team PapaMama (Team PM for short, stand for any number of things), rising from the ashes of former Team RP! We have a roster at this writing of 12-13 regular or frequent raiders, plus one or two more folks who've expressed an interest, so I am confident we have a solid team for starting WOD raids later in December or early in January, depending on when most team members are ready to start on heroics.
We sponsored our first raid Monday night, using Taklok's lockout to heroic Garrosh, and invited along anyone who needed an heirloom and had decent enough gear to contribute to the effort. We had 25 people for two waves of attempts on Garrosh - the first wave got him down in one pull, hurray. Then we reorganized, and after a bit of panic over whether Taklok's lockout had disappeared (it hadn't, we'd just forgotten to set the raid to heroic), tried a second wave with a new set of alts. This wave was more problemmatic, and we wiped a few times - some folks were less familiar with the fight ("this purple stuff keeps killing me!" "yes, that will happen if you stand in it...") and we had lower firepower. But we got Tay and Kaels in at the end, and their additional damage dealing apparently did the trick, so a whole second set of heirlooms went to new toons. Between the two waves, I think we got heirlooms to at least 20-40 toons, and everyone seemed to have a good time.

And here is the other half of Papagenia's report:
Papa Reports cont.
Last Shot at Garrosh: Wednesday night, Nina came on to start up our attempt to farm Garrosh, continuing from Tuesday's normal [formerly known as flex] run, only to find that the lockout system continues to play games with us. She had only the fights we'd done Tuesday night marked off, but Immerseus through Malkorok magically returned to life. After we all looked at all our lockouts, we decided to speed kill everything from Immer to Spoils on our mains, with Stylletto holding the lockout from Tuesday included in the group, so that we could then skip to Garrosh after that. Worked like a charm - we got the first 9 bosses down in 75 minutes, and then switched to a mix of alts and kind folks on their mains there to help the rest of us get heirlooms on our alts. A bit of a hiccup caused one wipe, but we got Garry on the second pull, and said farewell, FINALLY, to Siege of Orgrimmar!

That's all I have for this week.
For the Horde!
