Humans are a little hard to figure out sometimes, and that makes for an interesting Democracy. Congressional Republicans just finished a successful campaign that focused on not being Obama. Forget about the issues and actually having a platform, the party of We’re-Not-Obama came out on top.
One of the most fascinating things about this election was comparing what people actually believe in versus what or who they actually voted for. Voting against your own interests seemed to be the dominant theme in this election. Happy with your Kentucky Kynect health exchange, brought to you by Obama’s Affordable Care Act? Then you’ll definitely want to vote for Mitch McConnell so he can keep trying to dismantle Obamacare bit by bit. Huh?
Enjoy the cartoon . . . and the committee chairs in Congress who will provide endless fodder to satirists everywhere. (And be sure to like, share and comment to your heart’s content!)
[upbeat, excited narrator]
They thought it couldn’t be done, but in November twenty-fourteen, Republican candidates rode to victory on . . .
The Screw-You Strategy! (Or, “If you vote for me, I’ll kill your puppy!”)
So your state is reaping the benefits of the Affordable Care Act?
Run on a platform of eliminating those benefits and pledge to repeal that law!
Victory (and the House speakership) is yours!
Voters in your district think the economy is hurting?
Be the candidate who laid off thousands and brags about outsourcing— victory is yours too!
See, it’s simple.
When two-thirds of the voters complain the economy favors the rich— then proceed to elect candidates who want more tax cuts for the rich, oppose a minimum wage increase and block expanding Medicaid for the poor . . .
That’s the Screw You Strategy working!
Southern Senator: If you vote for me, I will personally come over to your house and kick your dog! . . . Unlike Obama!
Happy Female: I’m just so happy to finally have some honesty in politics. It’s like a gin-soaked breath of fresh air and cigar smoke!
Tough Guy: Finally, someone we can really trust to screw us! They’ve got my vote!
Narrator: Victory is yours with . . . The Screw You Strategy!
Never have so many benefitted from screwing so many.
