I have been a DKos member for almost a year now. Still a newbie, still getting familiar with the culture. But surely and truly one of my greatest guilty pleasures.
I check the site at least daily for thought-provoking articles and connections with (virtual) friends.
I follow Brainwrap and Joan on ACA signups and health care news, tmservo433 on the insanity in KS, Hunter on other Republican insanities, Leslie Salzillo on politics and the media, Jeff Singer, David Nir and Stephen Wolf on the elections. Plus Meteor Blades, LaFeminista, Laura Clawson, ericlewis, Kos, and dozens of others on various political, social, economic, and science topics. Love you all.
I even write an occasional diary myself whenever a topic strikes me.
But I had never subscribed to Daily Kos. Until now.
Running this site incurs costs. As Kos put it in a recent email:
We have big plans for the year ahead—launching a new version of the site, expanding our editorial team to bring you more breaking news coverage, expanding our activism team, and expanding our tech team to keep things running smoothly. Simply put, Daily Kos is going to be bigger and better than ever—and we’re going to need to be in order to push Democrats to hold strong for progressive values in the face of Republican attacks.
As a free ride, I had to ask myself, why am I not paying the $40 a year for the best source of news and commentary I have ever experienced? For the honor of being a member of the most effective progressive force on the planet? Couldn't come up with anything. Not like I can't afford 11 cents a day, as they say on TV.
So I subscribed - and I expect to renew as often as I can. May even give a few Christmas gift subscriptions to my family.
Feel better already.
